From Jeff Cox:
UMass lands a nice commitment for the upcoming season in '99 LD Jaakko Haarti. Jr. A SM-liiga Defenseman of the Year and First Team All-Star with Blues U20. Good offensive, puck-moving, PP D with a heavy shot, according to one scout who has seen him play.
If you haven't seen it, Haarti has decided not to attend. Rumor has it that he and classwork didn't mesh, but it's speculation at this point. The good news, we have a much larger D man coming. Elite Prospects says it's 2020-2021 but I think he's coming this year.

Buccigross with his pre-season rankings. I'm OK with it. If Mario had stayed we would probably be in the top 4.

Our third and fourth games are against Union - both at Mullins. I stumbled across this Union post just now:

ALBANY — The Union men’s hockey team was picked to finish eighth by the ECAC hockey coaches in their annual preseason poll, which was announced Tuesday. "I would put us in the bottom 4 somewhere. Its going to be a long season."
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

For those wondering, the rare nonleague double-home series, against an opponent less than two hours away, is the return from UMass playing twice in Schenectady two seasons ago -- 2-1 and 5-4 victories for the Minutemen.
I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.

It seems that the Hockey East coaches don't feel that we've dropped off too much.

Or with the exception of BC who by all accounts has a great class coming in, they just more or less copied last year’s standings.
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

Leave the A-10!

FYI - we have the most Men's games on that schedule. BC and Northeastern appear most often, but each have a number of Women's games aired as well.
