This would be one of the most shocking (and awesome) developments ever if he stayed. I can't see it happening. He's NHL ready.

Unfortunately, he has nothing left to prove in college hockey. If he stays, it will be because he loves it here (he does) and thinks UMass can win a national championship next year if we don't win it this year. However, these reasons don't amount to much compared to $$$$ and the risk of injury if he comes back.

For Cale to read: https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us ... ard-hockey

Jimmy Vesey is the 2016 Hobey Baker winner. I understand that he was a 66th pick, but....

I think Vesey at Harvard was probably also different because Vesey is from Boston and it's Harvard. Makar would be crazy to come back. I also think Ferraro is probably gone too - at least I'd leave if I were him.

I think Ferraro could use one more season. As a Sharks fan I can tell you the blue line with the Barracuda is pretty full so there isn’t really an opening for Ferraro and I think Ferraro needs to take another step forward before being ready. I like his game but maybe a season and the top D-man could help him. He definitely could jump this summer but I am worried he’s not ready and that could really hurt his development.

Agree 100 percent. Mario is solid, but I really believe one more year at UMass would do him good.

The Sharks are going to be in a cap space problem when/if they re-sign Karlsson. They don't have any ELCs on defense and most on offense are coming off. There is going to be a lot of roster turmoil for SJS this off-season.

I could see them moving Braun but for the most part the Sharks already have 8 NHL d-men in Burns, Karlsson, Vlasic, Dillon, Heed, Simek, Braun and Ryan. In the AHL they have Roy, DeSimone, Wood and Middleton, all of which are further along than Ferraro. If Karlsson re-signs, which I’m still very unsure that he does, they’ll have to shed space and Braun will likely be the one out as his play has not quite been what it used to be. I think Ryan could be moved simply because he has fallen out of favor with Deboer. Still doesn’t leave a lot of space for Ferraro. I’d rather him stay as the top D-man at UMass than be a bottom pairing guy in the AHL.
