Let's hope his NHL sources are legit. As he says, this would be huge for the Minutemen.

NHL sources telling me Colorado Avalanche 4th overall pick Cale Makar is leaning on returning to UMass for sophomore season. Would be huge for Minutemen.

Mr. Fear The Triangle seems to agree with Mr. Cox.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

I spoke briefly to a relative of Makar's at one of the UVM playoff games who indicated that Cale was weighing his options, but loves playing on this team and is looking at his long-term development. That's not a guarantee he'll stay, but he won't "bolt" solely for the money. Seems he has set his sights on a long career in the NHL and is level-headed enough to take what he thinks is the best route.

Nice article urging Cale to stay one more year:

He'll be back. All indications from day 1 were that this was a 2 year plan for development purposes, and there's no known reasons that would indicate that changes.

This is an exciting young team that can really make some noise next year. Coaches have done a great job. UMASS hockey should be huge next year

Well, Carvy seems much less sure in Matty V's article regarding Cale's return: http://www.gazettenet.com/Waiting-game- ... o-16162216

^ I came to a different conclusion reading Ryan Ames' Collegian column.

I really hope Cale returns. Love watching him skate/play. Another year would give him a chance to get bigger/stronger.
Recently, I watched a Bruins v Flyers game on the tube and was impressed with the heavy hitting. Many it'd be a good idea if Cale came back and added another twenty lbs of muscle.

Just speculation on my part, but I would suspect if Makar was going to leave, he would have already. In the past the players are flying to their AHL/NHL team within 24 hours of the end of their season so they can get in as many games as possible for the pro club before the season is over.

^ I haven't read that Cale is back at UMass either. Nothing in the paper one way or the other.

^

He's an enrolled student and member of the team. It's assumed that he is back til he graduates or until stated otherwise.
