Head Coach 2016: Micheletto out, Carvel in
New coach search is on.
Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
RT @MattVatourDHG Micheletto had a base salary of approximately $210,000 and Dawley, $237,000. Both will be paid in full for 2016-17 season.
As Dan Malone said on Twitter, "Kind of surprising to see Dawley bought out. #UMass not messing around." Indeed.

Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
Dawley was a surprise, maybe he is sending a message to all UMass coaches.
Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
Big ups to Ryan Bamford. Now let's see what he can do to bring in new coaches who can turn around programs! Happy with the moves.
Bamford has erased McCutcheon
Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
I am not surprised they both got fired, I am surprised it was it was the morning after the hockey season ended.
Easier to recoup the cost of firing Mick with just increased attendance and concessions in just one season at $14 a ticket.
Women's hoops tickets are only $4. They would have to average 4,000/game. However, when you currently get only 500 per home game you are obviously hemorrhaging money anyway.

Raise the bar, do the minimum.

For those interested, my thoughts on the Mick decision:

Great info Rocks.
They would be smart to have you on the search committee.

For anyone (like me) who is not that well versed in who might be a potential candidate, read the FTT posts.
Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
Thanks to you both.
Problem is if I was on the search committee, I wouldn't be able to post about the search. There is no shortage of knowledgeable people to serve on one. And hopefully, unlike our last AD, Bamford is sharp enough to listen to them. I think he is.

Dewey on the mark, as usual: http://ht.ly/3ziBGe
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

ITA ... DK, Whip and even Cannella are now on notice: Bamford will not accept perpetual rebuilding. He wants results.wmmmfan wrote:Dawley was a surprise, maybe he is sending a message to all UMass coaches.

And the same will be expected of him!MullinsManiac wrote:Bamford will not accept perpetual rebuilding. He wants results.wmmmfan wrote:Dawley was a surprise, maybe he is sending a message to all UMass coaches.

Rocks, I like your point about going back after Rand Pecknold. Things are incredibly different within the UMass athletic department now, and I have no doubt Bamford could make a compelling case for moving over to a Hockey East program. As you say, it would be tough to pry him away now... but absolutely worth a hard look. Would likely have to pony up bigger dollars to lure him over. A lot of your list would get me excited, but snagging the coach of the #1 team in the country would be a huge coup.

Re: Micheletto out, new coach ?
About time, thrilled that it happened so quickly. Bamford is not fucking around, that is exactly what we need.
This is a crossroads moment for him in the job as an AD. If he makes the right hire and the program gains the traction we all know it can, it's going to look great on his resume. All the work he's done, doing, or will do here matter a great deal as it relates to his next job down the line, whenever that may be.
UMass, despite being the butt of every HE fans jokes for the past decade, can absolutely compete on a national level with the right staff in place. I look forward to that day, and hopefully this is the very beginning of it.

I don't think he would leave Quinnipiac for us. They have decided to put all of their money behind hockey and it's turned out well for them.gosox22 wrote:Rocks, I like your point about going back after Rand Pecknold. Personally, I wouldn't leave if I was him.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)
