Game 4 (2015-16): New Hampshire

Post by Marshmont_63 » Sat Oct 17, 2015 2:32 pm

First conference game this Friday at the Mullins Center. For anyone who hasn't followed the hockey team this year, they're 3-0-0 on the season. We're also currently ranked #1 (it's early but still) in the pairwise rankings, which is essentially a power ranking. This team is exciting to watch. UNH lost to St. Lawrence last night, but they're still a tough team to beat. We need to prove that we can compete in Hockey East, and this would be a great statement if we can win on Friday.

As bad as it was early it was equally as good late. If these guys ever learn to put three periods together this could be a very fun year.

We'll see if Mick can hang onto the young guys, but there are only 5 upperclassmen on this team.
it's easy to root for a winner...

So far it looks like the freshmen that we expected to be good are living up to their billing. I'm encouraged though, because past teams would fold in the third period down 6-2. Mick just has to get the team to play smarter early in the game. Giveaways and penalties have been a real issue.

WHAT. A. COMEBACK. Unbelievable game. This is a game we would have lost 11-1 last year. The team really dug deep and fought hard in the third period. For anyone else who was at the game, can someone please explain the roughing call on UMass in the third period? How can we get a roughing call on us after a tripping call on UNH? You can't stop your momentum going into the goalie after you've been tripped. That call confounded me. Either way, there were a few bonehead plays with guys standing around (Buono and Lagesson come to mind). If we can shore up some of the dumb penalties and bring the intensity for the whole game we'll be good this year. This offense is very fun to watch. Great comeback, and we're undefeated going into the Capital City Classic next weekend!

As my friend DrG reported last night, we won 6-6.

The 16 guys having a point is great for their collective confidence. That's outstanding.

Does it look like the hokey team will be a lot more competitive this year?

Wow, looks like the team has got some stones this year.

Odd that they can give up that many goals and then shut them down. Did Dill give up some soft goals, did UNH pack it in with the big lead, or did UMass start playing better D?
