Re: New user registrations
Mike finally responded to me on Twitter. He said he'll jump on "later this week" to clean things up. I had mentioned at least one person offered to be a moderator but he didn't really respond to that part.... Mike's a busy guy, but hopefully he'll allow others to help him with the page as a moderator.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Re: New user registrations
Great news.
Re: New user registrations
I kinda want to see how long it would take one of the bots to have more posts than IV.
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

Re: New user registrations
Hopefully it's locked up soon (and maybe bot posts deleted), but it's getting really annoying. I find myself coming to the site less or staying on it less because of it.

Re: New user registrations
Is there anybody in charge of moderating and/or administering this site ? If so then when can we expect this mess to be cleaned up. If not shut it down.

Re: New user registrations
this got out of hand a long time ago, time to change something. Whatever setup we currently have isn't working.

Re: New user registrations
This got out of hand when Jack was allowed to keep registering under different names.

Re: New user registrations
Need to go back to screening new users.
Re: New user registrations
OK, so the open door experiment was overall a failure. I don't know how many legit new people we had join the ranks, but they were unfortunately drowned out by the Ruskies peddling stolen personal data, porn sites, etc.
I'll think about how we can effectively let new legit people in the door. I've been slow to respond to those requests. If there's anyone who may want to help in that, let me know and we'll figure something out. We want & need occasional fresh blood, but we clearly can't keep a total open door policy.
In the meantime, we're back to our previous method of bringing in new people:

In the meantime, we're back to our previous method of bringing in new people:
- E-mail me at webmaster at umasshoops dot com. (You can figure out how to put that into a real e-mail address.) You will be registered to the e-mail address you're sending from.
- Ask to be registered on the board.
- Tell me what user name you want.
- Finally, tell me why you want to post on the board. Tell me a little something about UMass, so I know you're for real. Fans of our opponents are also welcome to join.

As a daily user of the site, I would have no problem assisting in some (any) way you deem fit. This website is an important part of the UMass Athletics community.
