Basically do more with less year over year.. my issue is some of the people that have been relieved of their duties in the dept over the years.. he seems to love to get rid of the people that actually do work and replace them with multiple levels of administrators. I got 5 bosses bob.

All colleges have way too many 'administrators' whether academic side or sports. Sortino truly a legend, a la Cal.

My total guess is that the non-revenue sports need to be great at fundraising to supplement UMass allocations, and perhaps she was not? The recent UMASS gives drive yielded low results - 97 donors, 77% of target donors, and about $18k.

Contrast that with baseball - 100 donors, 128% participation of target, and about $27.5k.

Mlax fyi, raised $45k, 239 donors, and 139% of goal, which is better than MBB at $37k.

Obviously, FB and Hockey were the big recipients at $116k and $111k respectively.

Elaine Sortino basically won with dominating pitching because that's the NAME of the game. She had connections to the best prospects out of HS in the northeast and got to them early at various camps and that was a large part of her success. Frankly, Kristi had 3 pretty good pitchers in Colleran, Mendoker and Oliver, the last 2 whose careers was cut short due to injury. The Henderson's, Balshmitter's, Holtz and Plourde's were 4/5 star material and even though we've gotten some good hitters it's always about pitching dominance. I suspect Bamford will go after Whitney(Mollica) Goldstein which shouldn't take much cajoling!

The UMass gives is a bit of a mirage, do people in the select 100 basketball members make their donations during those two days or at some other point in the year? Is there a coach that brings back the money that used to be there for this program?

UMass Gives is designed to drive people who don't normally donate to donate. People who usually donate and do so on a larger scale likely aren't doing it on those days.

^ Fine here with that. What do I know, but I think that Brandice Balschmiter should be considered. She is in the UMass HOF, the New York State sports HOF, lost only two A-10 games in her UMass career, and has been a pitching instructor for several years.

UMass copy: "Brandice was a four-time Easton All-American and four-time Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year as she racked up 126 career wins with a 0.99 ERA!"

^ I think she was being considered when they hired Kristi, but I totally agree she was the most dominating pitcher in school history . . love to see her come on board in some capacity.

A friend of mine threw out Danielle Henderson as someone that should be considered as well.

Bamford likes to fire Umass Alumni more than he likes to hire them... i guess a 1st, a couple seconds and a coach of the year wasn't enough..

Wasn't BB an assistant coach at one point in time? Here is the issue, the assistant who was there was making 48k. My guess is BB can do private lessons and make more money.

Also, It seems the program had one assiant coach this year? Kristi had no chance,

New Softball coach named with DEEP UMass connections as both HOF player and assistant coach.

Notice the pitch for $$ at bottom of the announcement.
