Coach Berquist was a great guy and a tremendous family man Eventhough I was on the basketball team he had an impact on me. He was always so genuine and kind and had a big hello and was in your corner and interested in how the basketball team was doing. The athletic department at the time had some remarkable men - guys like Jack Leaman, Dick Garber, Dick MacPherson, Jimmy Reid, Matt Zunic Dick Bresciani and other greats. He stood tall in Boyden and ran a great program with future MLB stars like Mike Flanagan and Jeff Reardon. He had several basketball players on his teams that played 2 sports - Ray Ellerbrook, Mike Flanagan, Tommy Austin, John Olsen and several others. We rooted for him and his team. Just an all around good guy and a gentleman. May he RIP and he did it with dignity and a lot of class !
