Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Damn you are fast Dennis! I literally heard it on WEEI 2 minutes ago.dennisdent wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 8:33 am Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak will be the new football coach per Pete Thamel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was this name ever mentioned in passing in the NEW HC Search thread? This is out of left field for sure.
As disenchanted as I am with this AD, at least they did not take the easy (and wrong) route on this. it is TBD if this is a good hire, but at least they did not just make the wrong hire right out of the gate.

Yes, he's been on the radar for UMass for years. Springfield College guy (head coach is perfect, AD not so much) who can recruit and win.eldonabe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 8:43 amDamn you are fast Dennis! I wonder if Montgomery stays as OC.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Holy cow, I'm very pleased with this. He was at the top of my list from early on along with Neal Brown. Quick recap of his credentials:
Juice Stand wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 10:23 am Joe Harasymiak is an interesting name. From north Jersey, played at Springfield College, and brought Maine to an FCS semifinal and earned FCS coach of the year honors. Since then he's been with Minnesota as a positional coach and is currently at Rutgers as DC. If being from the NE, having FCS head coach success, and being familiar with big time FBS football are requirements, he checks those boxes.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
a new coach means nothing without these type of investments (per ESPN story):
https://www.espn.com.au/college-footbal ... ball-coach
UMass will have nearly $2 million in NIL/revenue share for the 2025 season and $3 million for 2026, according to sources. Those numbers are guaranteed, according to sources, which means they don't have to go out and fundraise.
Harasymiak will also have a staff pool of more than $2.7 million, according to sources, which projects to be the highest staff pool in the MAC by a significant amount
If this ends up being true, I am pleasantly surprised and happy

I’m not typing that guy’s name out every time.
He shall be JH henceforth.
Good hire. I will not offer the first “we gotta get rid of this guy” but somebody’ll say it sometime.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Congratulations to Joe on the head coaching gig, and welcome to UMass! I'm excited to see what he can do in a conference with increased resources. A new era of UMass football.
As bad as I think Bamford's been lately, I think he got this one right. Harasymiak was my preferred candidate over 1. Neal Brown (I didn't want another UMie after what I've seen from Don Brown and Derek Kellogg), 2. Tony Reno (seems like a good coach, but Bamford's ties to Yale made me a little suspicious), and 3. Kevin Cahill (I know nothing about him). Please feel free to take note of this post and dunk on me two or three years down the road when this all falls apart.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
This is the first head coaching hire that the fans of the school he's leaving are really sad and not bad mouthing him as Bell and Brown were. FSU fans said we'd be sorry and Michigan fans said we'd be sorry (he wasn't at Arizona long enough to matter).
Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Not a lot of years as Head Coach, but he did take Maine to a CAA Championship after years of them being underwhelming. He's got ties to the region, has been successful at FBS positions, and is only 38 years old.

Typing it is one thing, pronouncing it is quite another…

Anybody know to say his last name? Hara sim’ eee ak?

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Where is all of this money coming from? I'm happy to see it but wow, what a surprise. BTW, he was an assistant at Maine when they pushed us around in Foxborough in 2013. I was at that game and totally disgusted with how much better they were than us.
