The crux of that story is right on the money - The northeast does not give a shit about college football like the rest of the country does. It never really has and it never will.
Drop the mic....
Mostly true statement here, but the thing is that we do not need to give a shit like the rest of the country. we just need to give enough shit to fill a 30k seat stadium to 80% capacity.
Ummm, first off, we can't fill a 17K seat stadium to 80% capacity.
Secondly, just about everything surrounding the game absolutely sucks when there are 12K people (parking, tailgating, traffic). Until they figure out how to handle that, doubling that (24K = 80% of a 30K stadium). I cannot even fathom what Rte 9 would look like with a double down on what is already a traffic nightmare.

While I’m not optimistic about the future of A-10 basketball this is the main point that the football side consistently leaves out and a conference won’t change that. BC got up to #2 in the nation with Matt Ryan, played FSU at home on prime time, and didn’t even sell out. Interest has only gone down for college football in Mass.

Guess your not a math major. Merrimack - 86.3% of capacity. We've had terrible weather and normally band day is the biggest game. (14,672 / 17,000).
Simple math!
The traffic was not bad with close to 13k at the UConn game. Will say it again, students cross and the traffic flow is a problem and can be simply solved with allowing access to lots 22 and 23 across from the Mullins and Waste treatment plant and by the softball field.
Go UMass!!

Ok Smartass.... Umass average 10,600 or 62.34% capacity. Yay - they had a nice day for homecoming with Merrimack and a little worse but still a good UConn turnout - which would not have been nearly as good if UConn fans did not show up. Weather is meaningless to real football fans.... I went to a Game in Tennessee a few years back when they were a .500 team and it poured.... not an empty seat in the house. They love football.
As for your simple pedestrian solution - if it is that simple WHY DON'T THEY FIX IT????
Relax Maz - Umass football is not going anywhere (literally or figuratively speaking). Just put away the 6-0 start to next season AND any shot at bowl eligibility - it is embarassing.

BC had been the only show in town for FBS in New England until UConn. BC is not a welcoming place even for its own fans, charging 5 figures for a parking spot to tailgate in. UConn’s stadium is too far from campus, but still draws comparably to BC. BC fans didn’t even travel to Amherst. If UMass can find a way to be competitive they will come. There were more UMass fans at Texas A and M, Penn State, and Auburn than BC fans in Amherst.

BC may have the worst on campus tailgating experience in the country and UConn's stadium is 30 miles from campus. It's the one advantage we have over those 2 schools. We have an on campus stadium with great areas for tailgating. The sports department just has to get their heads out of their asses and make the parking access/experience in Amherst as smooth as possible.

We were 38-45-5 in the 30's. Hopefully we can do better.

Easy there hoss - those numbers would be a "marked improvement" over the last 10 years. Most here would give up a nipple and possibly a finger for that many wins.
