2023 Season
Re: 2023 Season
Casula should be fired for that 1st and goal fiasco all by itself. Embarrassing...

Re: 2023 Season
Jim Reid and Alex Miller were not Bell's hires but Bamford's. Bamford fired assistant coaches with the men's basketball program. No doubt he's sitting down this week with Brown going over the past season and next. Donors have a lot of say also and no ones happy with Casula's body of work this past season.TheInsider wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 8:40 am Yes but if DB likes Casula he can spin it as a total lack of talent at QB and some other deficiencies on offense. And he wouldn't be wrong. I'm with you and I'd like to see them move on but you're gonna have to up your budget to get anyone. Plus unless there is off the field issues it could get a little ugly if the AD is telling the HC who he should and shouldn't have on his staff.

Re: 2023 Season
I suspect they will be moving on from Casula as the OC. Whether that means he is let go, moves into an "Analyst" role, or just coaches the QBs is up for debate.

I agree. Just keep his fat ass away from the QBs. He is more then welcome to go back to D2 making 50k...InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 10:18 am I suspect they will be moving on from Casula as the OC. We shall see how it plays out. I can't envision him wanting to stick around if offered a demotion.

Why does IV trigger you so? Pretty innocuous comment by him to be offended by.
Re: 2023 Season
Don spoke at the sports luncheon today. He took questions and one of them was "Do you anticipate any changes to the coaching staff?" He said that he expects things to shake out in the next week or two. He mentioned that he has gotten to know a lot of people in his 45 years so he's not worried about finding replacements if he has to.
As far as recruiting goes, he will be hitting the portal hard, looking for players that have 1 or 2 years left. He said the NCAA has changed a rule so that now if you take a kid with 3 or 4 years left, that scholarship is guaranteed for all remaining years. Too high a price to pay for someone who doesn't work out. He wouldn't commit to any specific positions.
Signing day is 12/21 so he couldn't comment on any of the incoming freshmen.

Re: 2023 Season
I would appreciate an announcement that Casula is no longer our OC. We win at least one FBS game this season with a competent coach in that role.

45 years of coaching and this was the best offensive coordinator he can find? unreal69MG wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 3:29 pm Don spoke at the sports luncheon today. 45 years and friends doesn’t mean they want a massive pay cut to come to arguably the worst offensive college football team. The timing also had many of his friends in jobs already, most likely.PreecherJenkins wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 7:59 am45 years of coaching and this was the best offensive coordinator he can find? unreal69MG wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 3:29 pm Don spoke at the sports luncheon today. Re: 2023 Season
What he means is finding an up and coming young coach (Shane Waldron/Liam Coen type), or someone who is looking for an FBS offensive coordinator job, through his connections (friends) over 45 years. The UMass offensive coordinator salary is fine at 250k, more then many FCS head coaches (Maine head coach made 150k in the 2021). I have done this many times to find new hires for open positions.

Re: 2023 Season
So explain to me how the timing will be any different when he fires him now compared to last year's timing? There are plenty of guys who know a guy who will work for what UMass will pay em?minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 9:04 am45 years and friends doesn’t mean they want a massive pay cut to come to arguably the worst offensive college football team.
