Not going to drop football, and definitely won't drop football to drop women's sports. I don't think UMass Athletics is hurting for money and that move would piss off football fans and supporters of women's sports.

Fans aren't asking for a lot with football. Just put a competitive team on the field. That could happen as soon as next year if they can find a QB and better offensive coaching. The concern is they haven't been able to take that step for years. I don't want to see the FCS but I also don't want to see 1-10 or 2-9 for the next 5 years. I'm no expert on the infrastructure and financial considerations with dropping down, but I understand it's not a move that makes sense at face value.

Well in the case of football we are only talking about 2,000 or 3,000 people so that is not a big loss.

Lot more than that. You lose the football alumni, band alumni, etc.

There is NO question that UMass has taken over the title of "worst FBS team of all time" after this 11-year run and it's EMBARRASSING!

All time? Not even close. Last five years, yes.

Who else would you put up there? I’m just curious.

Northwestern, Kansas, and Duke all have had worse runs than the current UMass run.

There was a stretch where you could not even get odds on a Temple game - the sheet said NOT COMPETITIVE.

Yes. They were kicked out of a league for on field performance. We were “kicked out” for not going all in for all sports.

Because going 1-11 the next 20 seasons wouldn’t be embarrassing at all.
OK Dumb User Name, what's your suggestion (other than to PM me or just critique my posts)? You want to drop back down to FCS? I'd rather drop the sport altogether and have Mc Guirk as a lacrosse stadium.
See Dumb User Name is an idiot and a troll. He knows nothing about sports (he thinks he does). The most embarrassing thing a program can do is drop down voluntarily to a lower level of competition. At least the team is fighting and trying and games have gotten closer.

I watched part of the game: they looked damn good. I don't mean to be ZooMassScrooge but I'm having a hard time finding a win next year in 2023.....

EldonScrooge, yes the whole thing is embarrassing. Can it be turned around? yes but 2023 schedule is an absolute killer (see Coach Gomer Pyle 2019-2021).
