Game Seven: Buffalo
Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
Its hard to believe we can't establish any kind of passing game on a consistent level. TE's have been non existent, qbs have been primarity run first so teams just key on the run. As much as people hate on Gresh, he had some good points today. Why run Merriweather outside on a 2nd and 10, why not throw it earlier in a series instead of on 3rd and 12?
Secondary has had a tough year, and we haven't been killing it with a pass rush either.
Something is wrong tho and hopefully DB can turn this around cuz its getting hard to watch this every week

Casula has to be gone or demoted out of the OC role after this year. I know we don’t have a whole lot of talent at QB but jesus at least try to throw the ball and mix it up a bit.
Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
I have followed UMass football. At one time we were competitive and exciting to watch, always thought we had a chance to win. Not any more, bad offense, defense is not there, to many penalties. Not very encouraged.
Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
Hard to believe that we went 4 of 6 to end 2017, the BYU win at BYU was awesome. Seems like a million years ago. I think we beat NMSU after the bye though.

Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
If the other team scores more than 14 points, it's very likely UM will lose. It's frustrating to watch, and I'm sure much more so for the team. There's so little imagination on offense and few sustained drives, especially with penalties, that the game is pretty much over when the other team goes up 14. But, I still watch, and hope, and get excited with things seem to get better. I'm still waiting.

Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
The pass plays that were attempted yesterday looked like good designs. No execution. Dzuro almost got Johnson killed by throwing him into coverage. The 50/50 balls UMass caught were all the receivers. Wise didn’t throw anywhere near the receivers. And, Dzuro was high on most of his throws.
Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
The QB situation at UMass has been in shambles since the Amdrew Ford left in 2018. With the transfer portal we s/h done better than what we got right now, and more concerning is did Casulla even think we could compete/win with the guys we have right now . . .

Seven games and used four different QBs, none due to an injury. That is piss poor evaluation during spring and fall ball. In ten years as an FBS program, only had three actual FBS level QBs: Froh/Ford/Comis. I wonder home many different QBs have started a game for UMass over the past ten years Twenty or twenty five? How many have been turned in to TEs because they aren't FBS QBs? That is just pathetic.tdmass wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 12:58 pm The QB situation at UMass has been in shambles since the Amdrew Ford left in 2018. I think Curtis was serviceable as an FBS QB. The fact they didn’t even consider Dzuro because he was injured is a red flag to me. Did they not ever talk to him? Last year it was he and Olson who played a majority of the snaps.dennisdent wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 1:45 pmSeven games and used four different QBs, none due to an injury. I thought of Curtis too but he started, what, one game and didn't play that well. He just didn't have enough playing time and Bell wouldn't play him. They never spoke about Dzuro at all until he started against Liberty. It wasn't like he's some secret weapon they were saving up for the Pride Game. He isn't built for this offense and won't make it to the end of the season healthy.minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 5:21 pmI think Curtis was serviceable as an FBS QB. He may not make it to the end of the season but he is the best thrower/runner we have and it's not that close... that should tell you something about the level of talent in the QB room..

Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
We have 1, possibly 2 QBs in the room that are "normal" QBs (pass-first types). We just don't have an offense that fits that kind of a QB, nor an OC that is willing to adjust to said QB.

Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
I think if they thought the pass first QB was vastly more talented then all the other QBs they would change it up.. they haven't changed. If I had a player that lit up my defense in practice but didn't really fit my scheme.. I would change.. remember he was on the Michigan staff that was a pass first qb offense

They haven't adjusted in any form or fashion to any of the QBs in the room. That's a problem with the OC, not the room. I get wanting to install your system, but you have to work with what you have as well.
One could make the same argument about the RB position... they have an elite runner on the roster and he's been completely misused (when healthy).

Re: Game Seven: Buffalo
^^ but what if you have nothing?? I haven't loved Casula's play calling at all but I'm not sure he's working with a lot. I mean Brady got benched for Dzuro last year and Gino got benched for him this year... kid plays hard, but I'm not sure he's a FBS qb
