Wouldn’t a crowded theater suggest higher attendance?

Its much more fun to hate on coaches making more money then UMass professors. Yes, Casula that means you and your poor play designs and calls.
Sorry, I just can't stand some idiot who doesn't go to games or donate to the program constantly babble that we should drop down to FCS. He must get off on posting that crap on this board. I always wondered about his stupid user name but it's totally appropriate. He's basically a fool who yells fire in a crowded theater.
so if someone does not attend games or donate to the program, are you ZooMass84 classifying them as "not real fans"?

The attendance sucks no kidding and I have a little secret for yah, that 11k number was seats sold plus comps distributed, the real in-stadium number was probably closer to 8500. Do you know what else sucks? The team, the quarterback play, esp a guy who goes 1 for whatever!

On October 12th, 2024, there will be a sellout crowd, including added seats in both end zones. James Madison entered the AP top 25 for the first time yesterday and that is where we are headed and you sir will not be invited to the party.

After watching Dzuro pass for over 80 yards in less than a half and the offense looking more balanced it occurred to me that the staff must watch Gino and the other QBs throw a ton of picks in practice. They don't throw because they don't want to turn it over. I used to think it was all Casula.. don't get me wrong, he could change his offense to fit the players, but our QBs outside of maybe Dzuro aren't good. Gino and Zamar can run but can't throw. Or when they do there's a good chance it's an int. Brady can throw, but tends to throw it to the other team and can't run. Dzuro might be the only one that can do both and open up this offense.

Yes! The attendance numbers are not good now, but they will get better when the team is better. Getting 11k to a game was a feat when we were a very good FCS team. There were also very few students this weekend with it being the first three day weekend and the hockey game in Springfield likely drew some fans as well. I’m not worried about attendance. Buffalo will draw more and homecoming will draw more than that. Army on Saturday after thanksgiving at noon will be a ghost town most likely.

There were like 1200 people at the hockey game, people need to stop inflating the common western mass hockey fan gives two rats about this program. It is a student-dominated attendance event.

Glad you are not worried about attendance, but it is a major problem and an eyesore.

Right. Student dominated. Lots of students were not on campus. The eyesore could be fixed by putting cameras on the other side of the field. My lack of worry, does not mean I like or condone low attendance. The team is bad and has been for over a decade. Yet, even being ranked 131 and in the bottom 10 forever, the attendance is remarkably consistent and fairly equal to what the games drew at the heights of FCS. PT Barnum couldn’t sell people on this product right now. Win a little, make the experience worthwhile (which is happening incrementally), and the crowds will increase.

Merrimack had over 12,000 for their game against LIU last week. That will be more then UMass may have for a home game this season. Better, more entertaining product on the field. Who wants to watch UMass run the ball up the middle almost every play. Dzuro has been injury prone during his career and having him run the option was stupid!

That being said, UMass has been more competitive in four out of the six games ,which is an improvement over the past three seasons. Brown and MIller are trying to change the offense but between poor recruiting by Bell, injuries, and a clown in Casula. The only way UMass will win is keeping the other team to a TD or less...

I couldn’t watch the game, spent all day at a soccer tourney in CT but holding a 7-0 lead against a team like liberty into the 2nd quarter is a marked improvement over last season. This defense is starting to play some really solid Don Brown style football so that should give everyone some encouragement for where this program is headed. There is a still a ton of work to do on the offensive side of the ball but I feel like UMass is finally heading in a positive direction after 3 years of nothing.

The offense just needs to make some improvements, and I mean any, just enough to give the defense an occasional breather. The defense has been tremendous over the last 4 games, really spectacular 1st half play, and then they get gassed and give up 2nd half points. In their last four games, they're averaging 7.75 points allowed in the first half (9.3 in the last three games), and 15.5 points allowed in the 2nd half (20.7 2nd half in the last three games). As the weather turns colder, I think the defense have even more of an advantage.

The article in the gazette has some interesting posts about Dzuro. Essentially, he was an unknown to the coaches due to being injured during the spring. If he is healthy and can play like he did in the first half, he would get near 200 yard passing against the teams we have upcoming that are no where near as good as Liberty. Glad he was able to earn a spot. Also, shows us the glaring need for more out of that position.
