During that time frame the game that came the closest to setting an attendance record was that amazing memorable 2006 FCS Quarterfinal against UNH which UMass (and Don Brown) won 24-17 featuring a UMass 4th Quarter Goal Line Stand on 4th & 1 to stop UNH & Ricky Santos w/17K in attendance which was 9th or 10th all time.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:24 am I know a shit ton of students cared during the 05-07 seasons. What are you attempting to say? Can you translate into English:JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 11:44 amI too like playing Army. Service academy football is my favorite to watch. I don’t know what scenarios look like under FCS but the numbers I’ve seen for 2019-2020 show $4.6m in revenue and $10.1m in expenses for the football program. There very well could be other parts of the overall athletic department budget - both costs and revenue- demonstrating a different actual picture, but that doesn’t SEEM great.DrG wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 10:41 am ^ Point well taken, although it still doesn't address the fact that FCS football is a huge money loser because the revenue is negligible, as opposed to the seven-figure payouts we're receiving for getting annihilated by P5 schools. If we went back to FCS, then it would be what it used to be: a loss leader aimed at attracting alumni back to Amherst for a few days in the fall. I am still somewhat conflicted on the issue, though I would concede that if you look at the direction big-time college football is heading in, we will never come close to sniffing that party. I will say that I am happy we are scheduling Army every year, both from a competitive and geographical standpoint.

a successful 1AA program is a more realistic and better fit for the school?JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 9:41 amTrue, but doesn't that perhaps support the point that a successful 1AA program is a more realistic and better fit for the school?InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:24 am And since we are talking about that age bracket, I know a shit ton of students cared during the 05-07 seasons. I didn't know you determined what is "more realistic and a better fit"?
You can't be this dumb: the move to FBS was made over 11 years ago. It's a done deal. Millions have been spent on the stadium etc. But I'll tell the Chancellor you feel the football team should drop back down to FCS and we'll remove the Performance Center and Press Box and Indoor Practice Facility.
Re: Toledo Game
That was a memorable game for sure. The student section was packed for that one but I recall a lot of games that season where that wasn't the case. Especially when the game kicked off at noon.Jack wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:46 pmDuring that time frame the game that came the closest to setting an attendance record was that amazing memorable 2006 FCS Quarterfinal against UNH which UMass (and Don Brown) won 24-17 featuring a UMass 4th Quarter Goal Line Stand on 4th & 1 to stop UNH & Ricky Santos w/17K in attendance which was 9th or 10th all time.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:24 am I know a shit ton of students cared during the 05-07 seasons. Matt Dawson was my classmate in the 80's. I think you are referring to the Hatchell brothers.LouMass wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 12:35 pmWas that game where Matt Dawson (or his brother) had TFL on the 4th down stop?Quann wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 6:18 pmThat UNH game was the greatest UMass football game I’ve ever been in attendance for.Jack wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:46 pm

You are awesome, but I disagree. This is the best UMass football game ever attended.Quann wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 6:18 pmThat UNH game was the greatest UMass football game I’ve ever been in attendance for.Jack wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:46 pmDuring that time frame the game that came the closest to setting an attendance record was that amazing memorable 2006 FCS Quarterfinal against UNH which UMass (and Don Brown) won 24-17 featuring a UMass 4th Quarter Goal Line Stand on 4th & 1 to stop UNH & Ricky Santos w/17K in attendance which was 9th or 10th all time.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:24 am I know a shit ton of students cared during the 05-07 seasons. Re: Toledo Game
Maybe we should start a separate thread for this.
My two favorite games were the 5 overtime periods with Delaware. and the playoff game at home where the students rushed the field and tried to tear down the goal post in the endzone where the scoreboard is (south I think). they couldn't do it so they (the student mob) ran the full length of the field to the other endzone and were successful in pulling that one down... I loved it! Maybe the game was against Fordham?

I'm sure millions of Cowboy fans reminisce about the 90's too.. unfortunately they have nothing to do with the team presently on the field..
