New UMass Football Coach 2021
Time to look at future head coaches for UMass. Please do not let Bamford make the hire alone this time!!!!!

Valdamar Brower should at least get an interview if he is interested. Out of the box, but that's what UMass needs right now.

Take the LIU-Brooklyn route of hiring a coach that got fired and whose former employer ends up paying the bulk of his salary.

We can’t afford Liam. Alex Miller is a good choice for OC and will serve as the interim HC.Umass_Minuteman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 3:37 pm don brown and liam as the o coordiantor and head coach in

Harasymiak was my pick the last time. Really the perfect pick for UMass, tough, hard-nosed coach, can win with less. Not sure if he would leave for the job now.

Obviously recruiting Georgia is different than Massachusetts. But KSU hasn't won on a strict talent advantage. Their roster is #202 on 247sports composite rankings.
I think he's a proven program manager who knows how to use the talent he's got. And eventually running the option here could be beneficial for a team that's never going to win recruiting battles at a high level. It's worked for Army, Navy, Coastal, New Mexico, GT, where they were at a talent disadvantage. Why not UMass?

He's a northeast/New England guy: from Harrisburg, PA, coached at colleges in Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Including at Springfield College.
But he's a Princeton alumnus and even though the Ivies aren't about athletics, they could probably counteroffer higher than UMass.
McKinney wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 10:27 am Bob Chesney I think would be the best "fit" though. Proven head coach, background as a defensive mind, turned around 3 programs all in the Northeast at DIII, DII, and FCS. Off the field, he's run a clean program with some of the best APR scores in the country. If you need to convince university administration and boosters to pony up the cash, I think he's a really easy sell.

Anyone that has turned a loser into to a winner.. at any level. Bob Chesney fits that bill.. up and coming in his 40's and has won everywhere he's been as a head coach.

That would be a good one.. have to pony up some more $$$ though.. heard he passed on us last timedennisdent wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 4:07 pm Harasymiak was my pick the last time. Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
To me the only picks are Chesney or Harasymiak. They MUST have HC experience, history building a program and know this part of the country real well. Hence the two I listed above. No coordinators need apply. This is a huge hire that will make or break the program.

Anyone with a subscription to the Athletic who can see who they listed for potential candidates?

If you go in through a social media account-facebook for example, you can get it for free. There are no real shockers.Sheck wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:36 pm Anyone with a subscription to the Athletic who can see who they listed for potential candidates?

Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
Here is the key overview statement:
"This is probably the most difficult FBS job.
The Athletic recently polled more than 60 people in college football about the most difficult job, and UMass got 11 first-place votes, more than any other program. It was behind only UConn in total points, but UConn has at least had some FBS success and has more money. (It also has a head-coaching opening and a head start.)"
Mentioned are: Don Brown, Joe Harasymiak, Liam Coen, Al Golden, Bob Chesney, Rutgers (Sean Gleeson, Nunzio Campanile)
Much focus is in being able to recruit in the Northeast.
