New UMass Football Coach 2021
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
Gotta say that Brown has both 'cred' and a long phone list to enlist. Good for him. An adult is now in charge, proved nearly weekly.

Brown is sure hiring experienced assistant. That will make a lot of difference next year especially the the new recruits he brings in.

Partridge was the Cali prep coach of the year before heading to Ferris state. This year Arizona had the 23rd best recruiting class in the nation with him heading up recruiting.. pretty remarkable to have that good of a class for a team that stunk. There is a lot of experience on this staff.. more than we've ever had. Including a bunch of guys that seem to be on the rise
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
DB is without a doubt a million times better than that immature moron who almost destroyed the program. The coaching staff is like a who's who vs. Gomer's crony buddies from Tennessee.
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
But aren't you the "we should have stayed 1AA/FCS guy"? Remember, applications doubled since we went 1A/FBS but that's a coincidence!!!
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
Yes, I can also believe hiring competent people makes sense no matter what level of sports division they play in
Again, apps are up as the academic ratings and relative affordability of UMass have risen so much vs. private colleges. If people care about football, given our decade-long track record, apps would be down. And the stadium would be full of students on game days, not just the pre-gaming in the parking lots,

But how do you refute the fact applications have doubled since the FBS move-up?econalum wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 12:46 pm Yes, I can also believe hiring competent people makes sense no matter what level of sports division they play in

"Relative affordability"? Tuition has nearly doubled since 2012, but applications have also doubled. Logic would dictate applications should decrease by 50%. Attendance at football games has no bearing on the matter.econalum wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 12:46 pm Yes, I can also believe hiring competent people makes sense no matter what level of sports division they play in

Relative to other colleges - it is very affordable, esp. vs. Private colleges whose list price can now top $84,000 per year.

You still haven't disproven the fact applications have doubled since the FBS move-up in 2012. You have brought in extraneous comments and non sequiturs. The fact is you can't. You have been maintaining that for years but really should just admit they are linked. You are trying to prove a negative.
Plus you don't compare state universities to private institutions, you compare them to OTHER state universities. UMass tuition has actually increased more than the relative rate of increase in applications. You are comparing UMass to BC or BU or Ivy league colleges?
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
The fact is UMass is one of the most expensive non AAU state universities out there. It's not relatively affordable; it's more expensive than U.Michigan, UCLA, UC/Berkeley, and more than twice the cost of Univ of Florida and UNC Chapel Hill. Don't compare UMass to BC or BU, the admission rate is twice their admission rates.econalum wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 12:46 pm Yes, I can also believe hiring competent people makes sense no matter what level of sports division they play in

The proof are the tens of thousands of empty seats at football games since 2012. If having the worst football team in America meant anything to the students who chose UMass, they would go to the games.ZooMass84 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 5:51 pmYou still haven't disproven the fact applications have doubled since the FBS move-up in 2012. Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
Applications have not doubled since 2012. Where is that even coming from?
From umass.edu. It’s ~25%

Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
It’s not that the team means anything to the students. It is that FBS football gets the name of the school out there much more efficiently than other advertising methods. Even if the team is bad. Anecdotally, many away games I’ve been to have led to conversations with opposing fans asking about UMass and not knowing much at all about the school or athletics. People at Notre Dame and Florida State for example know nothing of the school. Getting the commentators talking about the school or ad space during games is the thing. I have no idea of a proven correlation between applications and FBS.Uminuteman wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 8:38 amThe proof are the tens of thousands of empty seats at football games since 2012.
