Awesome write-up! Couldn't have asked for much better.

I agree, surprised Mora ranked a bit lower.

Pretty spot on by ESPN.
Walt Bell was a C+ and near the bottom of the ranking when he was hired. Bell wasn't really "energetic" more like confused!

You think maybe Bamford is figuring out that he needs to hire coaches with eastern roots who know the east and even better know New England? We are a quirky bunch but we know and love our sports and we are unapologetically regional Yankees. Which also means we are happy winning ugly or even losing a few as long our teams play wicked hard!!
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
I'd suspect that one reason the Brown hire was rated higher than Mora is connections. Mora's been out of the college game for a while. Don Brown's been recruiting every year and has a New England network while Mora is a total newcomer here.

Well according to the Uconn board it's ok if Brown beats out Mora recruiting the Northeast because they recruit nationally lol. Especially in the short term Brown is going to run circles around Mora recruiting

^The Brown hire is really in their heads! I think they know that we got the better coach but are finding ways to make themselves feel better about the Mora hiring. They are making fun of his age and appearance--we would never do that over here (Walt Bell).

I called Bell Molnar 2.0 and Gomer after the SIU loss. Bell was actually worse than Molnar. So excited that Brown was hired. Talk about experience and knowledge.dennisdent wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 2:19 pm Pretty spot on by ESPN.

UConn never misses an opportunity to F-up. Mora's kid will fall flat on his face. I can actually see UConn dropping football since they don't even have an on campus stadium anymore. So ridiculous to drive half an hour for an on campus game.
Re: New UMass Football Coach 2021
He's 66 not 76. After the Bell youthful debacle I'll gladly take someone who takes geritol. Funny thing is, I honestly thought after Bell beat the spread vs BC and EMU and beat UConn, that he might have been onto something. Then he got blown out in a bunch of games and I thought back to 2019 again. The URI loss is burned into my mind: 3rd and 17 and they took it to the house!!!!inthescoop wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 12:53 pmHis age is my biggest concern however after seeing some of his most recent interviews it looks like he still has some pep in his step! This program definitely needs all the spark it can getdeke wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 12:19 pm Congrats to UMass football and to Don Brown. I like the hire and hope the program can financially support some great assistants as well.
I’m not sure how many seasons Brown has left in the tank, but I think his experience and leadership (and connections) are what the program needs right now.

Actually we’re old friends from my time as a student.
Time will tell if it’s good hire, but I’m happy that RB moved quickly. The fact Brown knows how things work at UMass can only help.
Good luck to him! Go UMass!
