Game 9 2021: URI visits for Homecoming

Post by econalum » Sat Oct 30, 2021 3:28 pm

Maine beat URI badly today 45-24. URI is now 5-3 and has lost 3 in a row.

^ This is getting interesting. I posted here about being at Rhody when they beat Stony Brook to go 5-0. They looked just fine as what we remember as a I-AA team. For them to get rolled by Maine like that is surprising. 528 vs. 303 for total yards gained. These next two for us will be an excellent read as to just how deep a hole we have dug.

Well folks we have arrived. For 2 weeks we get Camelot or misery depending on the outcome. We get to relive the glory days of the mighty Yankee Conference. 22 conference championships, 3 national title game appearances and the big one in 1998. Live it up everyone, soak it in, we get our past back but for two weeks.

Bring on URI.....ne!!!!! GO UMASS!!!!!

^ Except that Milt Morin, Greg Landry and Marcel Shipp are not coming through that door. :)

^Before my time! But yes Vermont. We will be joining the dead Yankee/CAA conference the way Bamford's heading.

Let's keep the role call of UMass greats going, we need some positive energy. Let us not forget the great Steve Baylark who along with legend of Liam Cohen carried us to the big dance in 2006.

One of the best at UMass. As I remember he had finished his minor league career and was about to go to grad school and making some extra bucks at the UMass summer baseball camp. He told me all about the run to national championship game in 1978. Can't believe that UMass beat Nevada at Nevada as heavy underdogs! Good times!

We have had so many years of great UMass football and a lifetime of memories. I was at that game in 2006 and it was awesome, except for the final score of course!

I was in the Marchibg Band in 06. One of my favorite memories from UMass. Despite the last 10 years, we are still great and UMass Nation will rise again.
