That's a fun statement. ND might finally consider a conference since it's stretching from the NYC media market all the way to LA, and has most of their rivals already in there now that USC has joined up.
Been saying that for a while now. As piss poor as C-USA is, it's still better than a 1 or 2 bid A-10 hoops/olympic sports league. We have 2022 sched filled out but 2023 will have 2 openings: NMSU and Liberty. Filling out a 12 game schedule is going to be near impossible in 2024 and beyond. If I was Bamford, I'd jump at the first conference that will offer us.

Don't get me wrong: I remember Henry Koffler and the bad old days. Swammy and Bamford are solid gold. If Bam can hire Carvel, I'm on board with Bam.

Down to 9 games.......forget Liberty.

Maybe, but could not ND cut a more lucrative TV deal itself, rather than share the BIG10 splits? I think so.

They’re projecting each school in the new B1G will be receiving about 100 mill annually from their cut of the new media rights deal. How much more could ND command as an independent?

Heading towards 4 20 team leagues for the money.

the 4 20 team league theory could happen so the question is UMass as whole worthy of inclusion? I would say obviously, Yes.. here we come Big 20 or ACC..

Ok for shits and giggles..

SEC 20: 14 current members + Texas, Ok, Fla St, Clemson, Baylor, NC.
B1G 20: 14 current members + USC, UCLA, Virginia, ND, Wash, Oregon
Big 12/Pac 12 20: 7 current members left + 4 new (BYU, UCF, Cincy, Houston) + 8 left over Pac 12 + Boise St
ACC 20: 10 current (BC, Cuse, Pitt, Va Tech, Louisville, Miami, Ga Tech, Duke, WF, NC State) + UMass, Uconn, Temple, Memphis, USF, SMU, Liberty, Tulane) + Army and Nave fb only)

Shit out of luck.. Mountain West conference members except Boise St

Could also bring in the concept of relegation like UK soccer. Have a conference aligned with each of the super conferences where top 2 move up and bottom 2 relegated. Base it just on football.. that would be ultimate pressure!

Depressing what’s happening with college sports. UCLA and USC in the Big 1G is just sad. NCAA could have tried to cap all college football conferences at 12 members each years ago which would have saved us from all of this ridiculousness but alas here we are.

Quann, the NCAA does not lead in football, it follows the SEC and others. The NCAA is weak in this regard. If the glass is half empty, then college sports has changed for the worst. The transfer rule changes and not sitting out is a game changer, along with players receiving cash etc. These two things affect basketball as much as football as on great kid can transform a basketball team and now it is simple for the P5 to pluck him or her away.
Go UMass!!

I get the NCAA is weak with regards to directing college football and has been for a long long time.

Steve, another scenario. What is to stop the remaining schools (49 programs) after the 4 20 team super conferences settle out from battling to get in to two more new 20 team super conferences? 6 20 team conferences with 9 independents looking in.

I see two possible scenarios IF Notre Dame joins the B1G: the SEC/B1G both going to 18 or them both going to 20. Financially, I don't see either league going past 20.

TV money only stretches so far, and as Gordon Gecko said "Greed works, greed clarifies.." Every team asked into a super conference will need to bring major TV audiences and ratings with them, as 'good traveling audiences' will wilt away with the sheer distances involved. 18 seems right to me, keeping greed in mind.
