SIGNING DAY
Re: SIGNING DAY
TV 40 in Springfield just highlighted a kid, DT Terry Lockett from Springfield Central signing with the 'Cuse. We have got to get to the point where UMass football at least has a chance with a kid like this.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Re: SIGNING DAY
i think they did a decent job except for the lack of a RB or two. My hope is that Brady Olson turns out to be a stud and becomes the QB as I don't think any of the guys on current roster can help make us a winner. 104th ranked isn't bad but I would like to see us get into the top 75 year in and year out.

Re: SIGNING DAY
Sure, that would be nice, but right now we suck.
We did, per 24/7, get the 15, 16, 19, and 20th ranked MA players. And while their signings were higher, we signed as many Top 20 MA players as BC did.

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

"except for the lack of a RB or two." Real decent job then! This team NEEDs running backs, so if Bamboo Bell doesn't bring one in during this recruiting cycle, I wouldn't call it it decent! As long as this program stays at the bottom of the FBS it will never see 75, let alone break 90!stevemaz wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 7:31 am i think they did a decent job except for the lack of a RB or two. How can you say in your Fire Walt Bell post that the program will be so improved in the future but then post how the current QBs won't make UMass a winner??? Olson hasn't even stepped on campus but you see him beating Toledo, Liberty, Army in a couple of years??? Don't recruit RBs but UMass will be beating Buffalo, MO, EMU--teams with much better coaching! Keep smoking the Bamboo!
Re: SIGNING DAY
Looks like a good haul by the Coaching Staff on signing day. Not earth shattering but a good group of mainly 15 including transfers. Agreed that we need a RB - I thought we had a commit from a NY state RB but so far we haven't seen the letter of intent. Glad to see the Devin Baldwin DT transfer from Rutgers. Hopefully we see some more commits in the coming days. I'd like to see another OL.

Re: SIGNING DAY
Agree with this. I was particularly impressed by Ryan Mosesso, a 6'5", 250# TE. If he can catch, look out! I'm not personally in a panic about the RB. I'd really like to see much more improvement on the OL, and I think even average backs will get better. Would love to see them pick somebody up, but it's not my priority just now. I feel like important areas are being addressed and that we should be a tougher team in another year or two. Looking forward to seeing what these guys can do!Jack wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 3:50 pm Looks like a good haul by the Coaching Staff on signing day. Re: SIGNING DAY
I keep reading on here how Bell has improved the recruiting. It has yet to be seen on field, especially on offense. Here are the recruiting class rankings from 2014 to 2021, the Whip and Bell years:
https://247sports.com/college/massachus ... l/Commits/
Whip:
2014 120
2015 107
2016 86
2017 110
2018 108
Average of classes: 106
Bell:
2019: 114
2020: 104
2021(early): 104
Average of classes: 107
If Bell keeps averaging 104 over the next two classes, he will be even with Whip after five recruiting classes at 106.
So far Bell's QBs have either been a total failure in Brito, or not ready (Marshall and FAU started true freshman against UMass this season). The team speed on offensive is non-existent other then OC. Running backs are slow and show limited vision, if any to finding holes. Offensive line is fat, slow and not physical.
Things are not trending up for UMass entering year three...I will keep watching and supporting UMass football and warm my heart with memories of the APP/BYU games.

Re: SIGNING DAY
I see almost zero relevance to recruiting class rankings in general and especially when we are discussing rankings over 75=80. That said it is somewhat good to see that the recruiting classes have improved since Coach Whipple's last two seasons. I expect to see that trend continue under Coach Bell as we move forward into 2021 and beyond.
Re: SIGNING DAY
Bamboo Bell hahahahaha
Re: SIGNING DAY
It’s all part of Bell’s scam to continue to coach while actually not knowing anything about football. “Young QB’s, not enough RB depth, not enough depth overall” will be the motto for 2021dennisdent wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 8:50 am"except for the lack of a RB or two."
