2021 Season
Three games that they have a chance to be competitive in: URI/Maine/UNMS. Sorry but I think UConn just has better players and coaching. EMU has better coaching. The rest should/will be blow outs.

Re: 2021 Season
See my posts: if 0-8 and lose to URI, then Bell should be fired immediately after the game. How hard is it to score a TD? How hard is it to get a first down? Walt Bell is supposed to be the "great recruiter" so why did we have the #100 recruiting class?

If covid isn’t under control does the BC game move to McGuirk?

Re: 2021 Season
Our class is currently 98th and that is better than 4 of the FBS teams on our 2021 schedule.
Obviously it isn’t great but it’s trending upwards from where it was before Bell. Hopefully increased talent equates to a win or three next season and more the year after. Rebuilds take time in college football
Re: 2021 Season
Anyone want to explain why it is not important that I'm seeing the revolving door heading into the transfer portal getting quite a bit of use?
Ruane and Byczko join the list today. That's four that I have seen just randomly flipping through twitter the last few days.

Re: 2021 Season
Seems pretty important to me.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

It's important but certainly not unexpected. Tough to keep kids when they suffer through years of losing.
Re: 2021 Season
Recruiting but not retaining is not the path to success. Since there are a lot of transfers happening in college sports, I wonder what is 'normal turnover' and what indicates a true exodus.
With something like 56 scholarship players, slippery slope.

Re: 2021 Season
We are supposed to have 18 recruits that have verbal so far. Early signing is sometime in the next 2 weeks. Hope we get a tall JC QB in the mix that can get the starting job next year.

More like 68-70+--give or take each day now...
This is pretty accurate: https://247sports.com/college/massachus ... tribution/
Its missing some of the walk-on's who've earned scholarships like Davis and Weir (who is transferring).
Re: 2021 Season
I *think* that I am correct that you cannot recover to a full scholarship load in one fell swoop. And if we keep having transfers, how does the FB program rebuild to a more stable level, with a higher chance of being competitive?

Re: 2021 Season
Not sure what you are trying to say. You posted that there are "something like 56 scholarship players" which isn't correct--they are on scholarship until the spring term is over (this school year is 20/21). Below may answer your question:
"A fully funded NCAA D1 FBS football team has a maximum of 85 scholarships. All D1 FBS scholarships are full-rides.
For the 2020-21 season, the team has 25 seniors on scholarship. Let’s say all of these seniors get an extra year of eligibility.
For the 2021-22 school year, this program could bring back up to 25 seniors and all of those seniors are eligible to keep their scholarships.
If the school is able to fund the maximum number of scholarships it can for the 2021-22 school year, they could have 110 athletes on scholarships. That means 25 returning seniors and 85 others.
The determining factor is whether or not a school can afford to give scholarships over the maximum."
The school can bring in grad transfers to fill those senior open scholarships.

Re: 2021 Season
It’s pretty remarkable to me that in year 9 of this transition, the University still doesn’t have the maximum number of scholarship players.

Re: 2021 Season
Easy to do when they are leaving as fast as they are arriving: "2019 JUCO signee QB Andrew Brito has entered the portal" That's the fifth that I have seen in the last few days and I'm not really trying.
