Hopefully UMass proves me wrong.
You are way too pessimistic. Forget last year. We have a full roster and a ton of P5 transfers. Lytle and Ka'Ron Adams are the real deal. I don't have a crystal ball but I really hope Pitt doesn't administer a UConn 45-0 beat down on us.

Its hard to forget last year. I hope to see a functional offense. That would be HUGE since I didn't see one last year. Watching Ucon get absolutely pasted by Fresno yesterday brought back some unpleasant memories.

I can remember being optimistic in 2019 when we opened against Rutgers and led early - we looked good. Then we opened at home against Southern Illinois and got embarrassed and never recovered unless you wanna count beating Akron as recovering.

I could see the offense looking much better with Lytle and Adams, and I think Alex Miller's influence on the OLine will be huge. I think that group will be much improved over the season
Just want to see a good, competitive team this year

It's a good thing that we are not playing this clown show for two months:

NBCWashington @nbcwashington
Liberty University announced a temporary campus-wide quarantine amid a spike in COVID-19 cases. The school doesn't require vaccinations, and lifted building capacity restrictions and requirements for distancing and masking.

Anyone know how many teams we play that don't require vaccinations?

Florida State does not require them, though they are encouraged.

I wouldn't go within 10 miles of Liberty University for a number of reasons.

It's ancient history. Let it go. In sports every season is a new season. Hockey won the National Championship and four years before that they won 5 games and lost 29 games.

^ Please don't compare UMass hockey to UMass football in anyway, other then they compete in athletics for the same university!

-Top conference
-Excellent facilities
-Large student fan base who attend games
-Many very successful alumni in the pros who give back to the program
-Have a budget to pay for a top level head coach and assistants

VS none of those!

I'm letting it go to the extent that I re-upped my season tickets and am looking forward to watching some live football. I am not letting it go to the extent that Walt Bell is currently 1-15 as HC of UMass. However I think the roster looks significantly improved in several areas - most notable to me is that we have excellent depth on the OL and probably more overall talent than we have had since Coach Bell took over. Go Go U !!! :D

FYI - based on ESPN's win projection each game, we're expected to be at least better than both UCONN and NMSU this year (also the FCS games). We'll see how that gets adjusted after our first game this weekend though.

UMass game notes are out: https://umassathletics.com/documents/20 ... df?id=7867

Looks the two transfer O-line haven't made the first team yet, might need more time to become acclimated to the offense. Brady Olson is the back-up QB--good for him! Such a young team.

I continue to hope that this game is not played. 500 active cases and 1500 in quarantine now:

Willie Allen is an "or" so he may start, Maybe that a guy with his level of talent is an "or" means there is some talent on this O-line. One can only hope.

NESN after Hours just had a segment on our upcoming season and interview with Bell which was good to see. He's excited about the team and getting to work with them from the spring on. Also was asked about expectations and he said he expects the team to be better as the season progresses which I can certainly get behind.
