My favorite comment so far. It comes from someone I respect and who has nothing to gain from being on the bandwagon.

His last 3 teams (FSU for 1, md for 2)have not been good on offense so that yahoo article puts quite a spin on things. FSU was actually brutal on offense and Francois looked terrible this year. Time will tell...

Time to change the sentence under the name of the Football Forum from, “Whip'ing the program back into shape.” to “”Waiting for the Bell to ring!” or something else...

Welcome aboard Walt!

So I don't follow college football like I do college basketball (basketball in general), but I am disappointed with the hire. Coming from a program who just had one of their worst seasons (specifically offense) in program history. Doesn't have a great resume. Going need to hire well, especially on defense.

I reached out to someone I trust, someone who follow college football somewhat closely and had watched FSU a good amount this season and in person at ND: "Awful OC. Disorganized with lots of talent. Never been north of the Mason Dixon line. He best bring Florida recruits with him or else."

That said: In Bamford I Trust

On a lighter note: Wonder how our Gator hoop coach welcomes our Seminole football coach??
Hire Matt McCall!

For the first time in the FBS era, we are hiring a young and presumably hungry assistant from a power program and I think that direction is long overdue. Obviously time will tell, but I can't comprehend why anybody wouldn't be willing to give him a chance.

I don’t follow college football that closely either, but I think it’s way too soon to make a call on whether it’s a good hire...or not.

I’m interested to see what his staff looks like...particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

UMass didn’t seem to have a problem scoring. Unfortunately, their opponents had even less of a problem putting points on the board.

I don’t know anything about Coach Bell but he is the new leader Of UMass football so Welcome to Amherst and the 413 Walt!

What I am most excited about is Walt is rumored to be an excellent recruiter which we need and salary pool for assistants was increased!

Maybe we’ll see Ben Albert back in Amherst as DC and another strong recruiter.

Some Florida State perspective:
I'll say this great young coach great offensive mind and one hell of a recruiter maybe one of top in mid Atlantic specifically
I think it's a great get for UMass and hopefully he stays for a few years (4/5) and builds this program up! Top notch recruiter and serious prospect in coaching world. Was great at Maryland and had me very excited when he came to FSU.
FSU fans do seem to be losing their minds that they will lose their prize QB recruit, Sam Howell, who was a big Bell recruit. (But he won't be following Bell here ... North Carolina seems to be the logical move.)
Guy is a huge talent and not many people expected him to take a lower thought of nationally job like UMass. Which IMO means he is a huge get for UMass program ... young full of energy. What he did in Maryland was amazing ... 3 QBs one year, still had great offense

100%

People are disappointed with the hire without an hour even going by. I think this is a home run hire, and not one that I expected. He’s the opposite of Whipple, and is on par with Ryan’s basketball and hockey coaching hires.
