Detroit Lions TE Coach Al Golden, former Temple, Miami Fla HC.

Golden would be a good option too. Might have been in over his head at Miami but he is a proven program builder and that's what we need. The situation he inherited at Temple is not unlike ours. I'm squeamish about giving the reins to someone who has no HC experience at the FBS level. If this next hire doesn't work out we're looking at a whole decade of futility at the FBS level.

Might be squeamish, but Neal Brown’s first HC job seems to have worked out well. And, PJ Fleck did pretty well in his first gig at western Michigan.

Certainly Harasymiak should be considered and I wouldn't be disappointed if he ended up being the guy. I'd definitely prefer him over a coordinator at an FBS program who has never been a head coach.

Golden would be an incredible hire - my thought on that is, does an experienced, veteran coach want to walk into such a headache? I bet he sure is comfortable being an NFL TE coach.

Actually he was "promoted" to linebackers coach under Patricia but given the Lions start there may be some coaching changes made at the end of the season anyhow. Either way it's an opportunity to be a head coach at the FBS level again. Also the fact that Whipple was given 5 years should hopefully be a selling point for the next head coach that he will be given ample time to turn around the program.

I would think that if/when the AD is going to replace whip he certainly don't need any help/advice from anyone on this board.

Pretty sad attendance. I remember the days when that stadium was pretty full for games against teams like Yale.

Dream Hire: Les Miles, Jim McElwain Acceptable Hire: Joe Harasymiak, Danny Rocco Palatable Hire: A OC/DC with no HC experience but is from a respected school/conference. But that's just at first thought.

College football as an in-person spectator sport is in decline, even in Power 5. When we think about even 10 years ago, the number of games available on all screens simply dilutes the audience, especially as internet often delivers very crisp HD level pix.

Or 3 sold out games at McGuirk and 3 25k+ games at Gillette. Something like that.

IMO Gillette could have been used like we used the DCU and MassMutual center in the 90s. And like Gillette, those only make sense to leave campus for if we're winning.
