Just saw tweet from Mark Bertrand that he has been dismissed.

Wow. Jack McCutcheon is ruthless. I wonder what implications this will have on the football program. Surely, there may be some attrition from players but I am more worried about the faculty and naysayers once again coming out of the woodwork.

The question for me is, what changed in two years that McCutcheon had to fire Molnar? And should McCutcheon be shown the door also? I think beyond the Kellogg hiring, he hasn't been all that successful at AD

A million appropriate reactions to this news. "lol" doesn't make the list.

I have a feeling this is coming from higher authorities than the athletic director.

I have to imagine an outside alumni/donor made a call or two. I kind of doubt that the higher ups would make a 180 in a month without outside pressure. Not to mention funding a buyout for the guy.

I followed the football team VERY minimally, but from what I did read/hear, I got the impression that he was a good salesman. However by the middle of the 2nd season the new car smell was gone and most were not particularly happy about the current state of the program or about the future prospects with Molnar at the helm.

Is that a fair assessment?

this is going to kill this year's recruting class. So the HC, OC, and WR are all gone... ON Maroon Musket, there was a poster who hates CM and mentioned time and again that there was an internal investigation against CM then an independent investigator was hired to look into further complaints, etc against CM by players currently on the team and on the team last year. Have no idea if this poster was ever telling the truth, but maybe, just maybe he was

So do Max and his goons up their whining and crying and say that now that we got rid of the coach, we should move back down??? How much damage is this move going to do to the football team?

To be fair, he is (was) super enthusiastic and energetic when addressing the boosters/fans/supporters. But that wears thin when you don't produce on the field.

I'm not quite sure how to react to this. I suppose I'll wait to withhold judgment until more details are out.

My immediate thoughts are:

1. Something is going on behind the scenes and this was not 100% football related.

2. I really hope this doesn't set us back recruiting wise. We can't afford that right now.

3. Can't wait to find out who the new coach is. Hopefully it's a UMass guy a la Kellogg who can rally alumni support, recruit locally (not that DK has done that), and build long-term.

4. Unless some awful information about CM's conduct comes out, I wish him the best. He took a lot of heat (some of it rightfully so), but I think he stepped into a near-impossible situation as an outsider and didn't fully know what to expect. I really enjoyed his enthusiasm and his Made in Mass campaign though. In fact, I hope the Made in Mass campaign continues. We need to recruit locally.

They better already have someone in mind/lined up to replace him.
