Re: McGuirk Upgrade
McGuirk wouldn't be the first stadium built on a high water table. There are solutions. Just a matter of if the cost to lower the field is > than the cost to rebuild the stands, or any number of other alternatives.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
And where is this money coming from? I doubt that the state will appropriate funds to do it.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
I think I see Berkie in that pic
Is it really that the water table is that high or is the soil really bad for drainage, like clay or something? You'd think with all the engineering they can do these days vs back then, that something could be designed

If the Romans could build the Colosseum, I am confident we can sort out building a new stadium.

Thank you for the pic! That’s exactly what I’m talking about, the stadium would be a hell of a lot better with those front rows added back in.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
It would be even better if the stands were filled like in this picture!Quann wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 6:52 pmThank you for the pic! That’s exactly what I’m talking about, the stadium would be a hell of a lot better with those front rows added back in.

Re: McGuirk Upgrade
The filed is right at the bottom of the hills from Amherst center and the hills in Hadley. I’m sure there is a way to drain the swampy areas.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Sinking the field would require essentially a huge, water proof, concrete tub. Probably cost prohibitive!
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
I don’t see sinking the field as a need. Just start building legit seating to encompass the field. Start with each sideline and then eventually adding seating to the South end zone (knocking down the big white wall in the process) would make the place look legit with the added seating and a more closed in feeling.

That wall hasn’t been there for a while. New scoreboard and commonwealth club has been there.Quann wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 11:48 am I don’t see sinking the field as a need. Re: McGuirk Upgrade
Back during DB’s first gig with us as HC we aded seats in the end zones for students and the band because the home side was sold out virtually for every game. Agree that we need to sell it out before adding more. I think making students get tickets before the game would help a lot. I think there will be an increase in student attendance this year. Let them fill the place.
Re: McGuirk Upgrade
There's still the one white end zone wall up right? That's what I was talking about. I haven't been to a game in a couple years so maybe they did take that wall down too.minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 12:52 pmThat wall hasn’t been there for a while. https://images.app.goo.gl/ENGnhsq3Waho4S269 It is not there. Hasn’t been there since the new scoreboard went up. You can see the end zone behind Merriweather.Quann wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 1:53 pmThere's still the one white end zone wall up right? That's what I was talking about.
