Like a few years ago when there was suppose to be a bowl tie-in, think the same is with conference affiliation as crickets. Perhaps need to be patient, but the schedules need to be addressed one way or another as both Liberty and New Mexico State have found homes with CUSA and we schedule both in 2023 and Liberty yearly. So Starting in 2023 expect changes to the schedules. Hope for a conference home, but know better as we have conditions which most conferences give a NO. Even desperate CUSA has not said YES. OF course CUSA will not give a flat out NO either to hedge. So hope for the best but know Bamford will be spending a lot of time with scheduling.

I expect UMass and UConn to both be added as football only members to either CUSA or MAC

You shouldn't. Neither of them
want us as football only. UCONN is a different story, because if they'd be able to negotiate some BBall game with them (men's or women's) as part of it, that would actually mean something.
But UCONN also doesn't appear to want that themselves. They're holding out for the ACC or something along those lines.

Not exactly as we have Liberty schedule those years and they will probably be ditching the schedules with us as both being independent at the time we probably have an easy out clause for both of us. Like to see us do a Basketball and football home and home with Western Kentucky as a replacement. They are less than an hour from Nashville and could be a fun road trip. Not to mention in basketball in 2007 were in the final 4. They tend to be good in both sports and would be a nice match as we get stronger.

they may keep us. that said, i really do think we will be moving to MAC or CUSA as football only school. Looking at 2024 it would be easy for us to be part of MAC again since we have 5 games vs MAC teams that year.

There is NO WAY the MAC takes anybody as "football only". We screwed up by turning down the MAC full time. It's actually a very stable FBS conference with bowl tie-ins. C-USA is a basketcase of a conference and even then I don't see them taking anybody as "football only".

If we went to the MAC for all sports we would screw all the other sports.

I'm NOT saying the other sports don't matter but football independent is not a long term proposition. Hockey is in Hockey East. Mens and womens LAX are now both in the A-10. In football unless you are Notre Dame or a service academy you are going to die on the vine. No CFP money, no bowl tie ins, etc. BYU is in the Big 12 and Liberty and NMSU are now in the C-USA. You need to be in a conference to survive.

OK I will but in 2023 there will be only 4 independent teams. 12 games - 3 (you can't play yourself) = 9 games we need to find opponents. after the first 4 weeks everybody is in their conference schedules. It's not 1980 when you had 40 indies like Pitt, Penn State, BC etc.
