It was announced on dec 4 that coach Joe was hired. It was announced the day after he agreed to be coach.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ball-coach. Alex Miller was on staff with coach Joe. The signings seemed to be aligned with the hiring. Coach was introduced at a press conference on 12/6. Again, I am saying if he as coach, which he was when the kid signed, agree to the signing and then cut him/yanked the offer that is bush league. Do you not agree with that? If coach Joe on 12/3 or 12/4 told the player his offer was still good and then reneged on it after he signed that would be bad right? That is what the dad is claiming. The dad could be wrong. Maybe coach Joe didn’t agree to honor the offer. Who knows? I am not giving the coach shit. I am simply saying that if the dad’s take is accurate, then yes it is bush league. If dad’s take is inaccurate, totally fine.
BTW there were five early signings on 12/4. The only one not honored was DH’s. Pretty sure kids wouldn’t sign on 12/4 if they didn’t know who the coach was or if they didn’t have conversations with coaches or the AD.
He wasn't under contract--huge difference. Miller was never on his staff, Bamford kept him around for the transition and he was let go by the new staff. We don't know the status of the other players as they may have been cut too. He has plenty of time until next fall to find a new school. In this day and age of NIL, I don't feel sorry for any player--welcome to the real world like most eighteen-year-olds! DH and his helicopter father need to suck it up and move the fuck on!
The athletes wanted to be treated like employees and make money--while here you go. It's a business and if a coach follows the rules like coach Joe did here, then it's not "bush league."

Bingo! The schools and coaches used to be able to screw the players when the coaches left for greener pastures and the players were kinda stuck.. now in NIL the players can screw the schools and coaches. It's fair play now.. it's a buisness

^I agree, comments what Coach Joe did is "bush league," when he is following the rules are incorrect. Also, DH wasn't coming to UMass until next fall, not three weeks before the semester.
https://www.gazettenet.com/UMass-footba ... e-54383828 Fwiw. He was scheduled to enroll in January. Yes. New coaches can revoke scholarship offers. The dad seems to be saying that the scholarship was going to be honored when coach H was hired and then three weeks later changed his mind after paper work was signed with the new coaching staff. If dad’s take is accurate then yes it is “bush league”.
Not really bush league at all. Coach Joe is allowed to change his mind, I'm sure when he committed to the kid initially he had 10,000 other things coming at him from all directions after being hired. I would guess that first week is pretty overwhelming. He probably settled in and thought about it some more and decided the kid wasn't a good fit for his program. Nothing wrong with that. The kid still has plenty of time to land at another program for the fall, he'll just have to hold off on starting classes until then unless he finds a program that wants him within the next couple weeks.
Far from the end of the world and I don't think it's bush league.

If Coach sees that Dad is super online, maybe he doesn't want the possible headaches, especially if the player isn't even that good.

It may not seem kosher for a new coach, but it is possible that Bamford was honoring the offers and not the newly hired coach. If Kids can jump into the portal when they want, then it can’t be bush league when a new coach rescinds one. Also, maybe Coach Joe didn’t feel that DH fits his offensive philosophy

If he pulled something like this next December/January after being on the job for a year then that is kind of bush but doing it when he first gets hired? That’s fair game. He has to get everything settled right now the way he sees fit. He’s allowed to make changes in the first few months of taking over a program in hopes of improving it.

I don’t know what happened. There are rules and he has the ability to make changes, for sure. The dad’s take implied rules weren’t followed. I have no reason to trust the dad, and the school can’t comment on disciplinary issues or recruits/players that are not theirs. Point was that if dad was correct, if coach Joe agreed to the offer and the kid signed, and then three weeks later coach reneged on the offer, that would be bush league. From my understanding, it would not be “legal”, either. He is definitely allowed to make changes and cut players he didn’t offer, etc. There were five players signed on the early signing day and this kid was one of them. Why he signed or was allowed to sign if he was going to be sent packing is the question that hasn’t and likely can’t be answered. Signing on 12/4, the kid obviously had an offer the school hadn’t withdrawn. Can’t sign if there is no offer. Not sure who was the acting representative of the school/program at that point. Maybe it was a Bamford fuck up. Who knows. It’s just a weird scenario with the hiring happening simultaneously.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. They probably welcomed him, and as the staff developed, changed their minds and told him to look elsewhere. It absolutely sucks for the kid. It is possibly a bad look for the new Coach/Staff/Admin/University. Lets move on.

My thoughts exactly. We've expended far too much time and bandwidth on this 1 insignificant player. He'll land somewhere and we ought to be talking about what's happening with recruiting and the new coaching staff.

This is the side of Big Boy football that is unappealing to the high ground Am-Herstians out there. It sure does suck for that kid for sure, but he is not the first (not even close) nor the last (not even close) to have this happen all over the country. Football is a dirty a business as anything out there, and the really good teams/programs blow through this kind of stuff like it is nothing.
Again, sucks for this kid, but, this is an actual sign of Umass acting like an FBS program.
