Worcester_To_Amherst wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 8:41 am Does anyone know if the 2 million in 2025 and 3 million in 2026 is just for football or the entire athletic department? If we go from low 6 figures to 2 million in one year for football NIL, that’s a heck of a commitment.

I keep getting conflicting details, but most point to that being a combined figure between football and basketball. The % breakdown... no idea, but I would have to suspect it is more in favor of football simply due to the roster sizes.

I would LOVE for it to be Football only and for bball to keep doing what is is doing, but who the hell knows. It would be nice if we can, at some point, get the Athletic Department to lay out how they plan to handle this in-house. I think a lot of people will want to better understand how to direct their donations to the department and know where their $ is actually going.
If it is not just football then the reporting or communication from the school is suspect.

I'm not. The public sector is never known for good management or communications.

Even if it’s split across football and basketball, that seems pretty good for the MAC. I wonder about title 9 implications, but I’m sure they have taken that into consideration.

Not surprised. My guess would be it was the communication from the school, not the reporting, based on the last two weeks.........

You raise an interesting question about title IX. If a P4 school has an QB getting a multimillion dollar NIL deal from the school (not a collective) then does the school also need to give a multimillion dollar NIL deal (or many smaller deals summing to the same amount?) to a women’s athlete?

No, the Collective, is what its name is a collective of outside money that they give to the players at the request of the donors. Just like the football team gets huge donations from people like the Jacobson brothers doesn't mean that a women's sport gets the same level of support. Has nothing to to with title IX.

The money in the new UMass collective is from donors, not UMass.

Sorry DD, Juice, The Steves, LS......I'm back. finally got over the Liberty game    We spent big bucks on a coach and his staff and that's a good sign. I'm just going to keep away from high places and ropes with little stools under them.

TE Jax Markovich (Scottsdale, AZ) has signed with UMass to make it 5 signees. He was our highest rated recruit according to On3.

The athletic director also confirmed a Pete Thamel report that Harasymiak will have $2 million in guaranteed NIL in the coach’s first season, which will then bump up to $3 million in 2026. Those numbers would likely make UMass one of the most well-funded non-power conference football teams in the nation.

I think thats the idea: Give Coach Joe the necessary investment to be successful in the MAC. It's as if we finally have a transition plan in place to be competitive in FBS 13 years after leaving FCS.... Better late than never I suppose.
