UMass To Immortalize Four Basketball Legends
Statues honoring John Calipari, Marcus Camby, Julius Erving and Jack Leaman will be unveiled outside the Mullins Center on September 11

Timing coincides with the Hall of Fame induction the night before.
Sept 11 is also BC football game!

Let, at least, the players retire first before we take this sort of step. But there will be some big hockey thing some day, that's all but assured after this Championship season.

Is there a description of what the Statues will look like? I hope that it not just a head bust on a stand...

Great to see this getting done! Only complaint is this is before basketball season begins and it’s also the 20th anniversary of 9/11. I get it coincides with the hall of fame stuff but maybe there could have been a better date to unveil?

Nope. Football plays BC that day and the place will be packed because of it. Makes perfect sense to do it that day and maximize the crowd already in town. I'd say this also clinches that Cal and Camby will be in attendance, so factor in the scheduling associated with that (and likely Dr. J too).

^ Dr. J. more than likely

Please, please ... don't forget to mention Rita and Laurie Leaman.

If anyone is considering staying over at Hotel UMass, there are rooms available for Saturday night.
Friday night is very limited.

Rooms are expensive.
$279/night

I didn't forget them, but they live locally. I was specifically commenting on the logistics surrounding scheduling with those that don't make their home in the area. I very much look forward to seeing the Leaman's that day, it has been far too long.

What a great thing for UMass. Ain't nobody embarrassed or disgraced that matter. Have you ever heard anyone say a negative thing about Jack Leaman? Nope. Same for Julius, who is, without any doubt, one of the greatest EVER. John Calipari orchestrated one of, if not THE best, rebuilding efforts in college basketball history to bring UMass to 5 consecutive A10 championships and several NCAA tourney appearances. And Marcus, like Tom said, chose to come to UMass and lead the program to unprecedented heights, and still follows and supports the program.

The admiration from their former players, teammates, assistant coaches, staffs, and all the fans who had the luck and pleasure to see them firsthand is pretty widespread and all that matters

Lets take a wild guess as to which sanctimonious, increasingly irrelevant, Boston sportswriter hates this idea:

The comment section is tearing up UMass and Bamford--guess the Globe leadership is getting their advertising clicks out of this...

Camby was a young, poor black kid who made a mistake and admitted it and has gone to have a great career and get his degree. Cal never did anything wrong at UMass!

You have to take whatever the negative Boston Media is saying with a grain of salt. This goes back decades to their total disinterest in the success of UMass athletics. They love to take shots at UMass and always rain on our parade. My advice is to ignore the noise. This is a great moment in UMass Basketball history and I hope soon to follow statues to honor the UMass Hockey NCAA Championship. We have so much to be proud of and don’t let anyone tell you different. This is a great thing to honor UMass Basketball history - a proud history that was built on the shoulders of some very great people. Enjoy it for what it is - this is
“our one shining moment” - Go UMass!
