Matty mentions both Putney and Riley will be here this weekend in his latest blog.

For all i know UMass already tried this and the dates just didnt work out, but for this handful of players (and any future recruit visiting in the fall semester), wouldnt it make more sense to schedule visits on weekends when the football team is in town? I know if I were a bball player and interested in UMass, I'd want to see what the campus is like for a game against a delaware or richmond (homecoming). Having the recruits see tailgaters and a packed house for one of the best in FCS could only help our chances at landing good recruits

I was wondering about that, too, and I concluded that maybe they wanted to get these kids up here and committed as fast as possible.

Or you don't try to compare yourself with the BCS schools when it comes to football.

Dewey says we are still in this hunt:

"The Minutemen eventually hope to add Esho's D.C. Assault teammate Raphiael Putney, a 6-foot-9 forward from Woodbridge, Va."
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

If you look at Putney's Scout profile, we are the only team listed.

Here is an article about Putney that lists a few other schools looking at him.

I hope this turns out better than the last few guys that needed help from Antonio's!

"One area he needs to improve on is his weight. His father estimates Putney weighs around 150 pounds. “That’s his nickname, ‘Skinny Man,’ ” Richard Putney said. Scout says 180, Dad says 150. Guess which one I will believe.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Putney to warrant much excitement...

Sure, he received offers from St Joe's and George Mason, but ESPN seems to have never heard of him, and this Republican article is not too flattering:

If you throw out scholarships to every HS junior with "potential," it takes away space for those top-notch guys. I'd rather DK be more like the girls I asked out in 8th grade and "keep his options open."

Parents can always be wrong about weight. The kid may look 150 but he would be all bone at 6'8. Im 6' myself and at least 165.
