Chaney suspends himself for Sat
Chaney suspended himself tonight for Saturday's game vs. Umass for using the "goon" comment and having him throw elbows in last night's game vs. St. Joes:

Does this help us at all? Or hurt us?

This hurts UMass.
Does "win one for the Gipper" ring a bell?
As if the Owls and their fans didn't already have enough reason to be pumped up for this game, the obviously missing coach will be a constant reminder.
Furthermore, how would you react if you lost the first three rows of seats because you were being too rowdy? You'd be rowdier just to prove that your effectiveness was not dampened.
Add to that how little respect Lappas seems to have in the Philly area, and how much fun they have taunting him, and you are looking at conditions for a very animated arena routing for a very motivated team.
Then again, maybe I've got this all backwards. As Freeman once said: UMass seems to thrive on adversity.
Well, they're in for a healthy dollop of adversity. I hope they're up for thriving!
Go UMass!

If Mike were here he'd probably point out that this is already being discussed in the all-encompassing Temple thread:

Thanks for the heads up; I had stopped following that thread.Rocks22 wrote:If Mike were here he'd probably point out that this is already being discussed in the all-encompassing Temple thread:

But,it's really NOT about this topic. Only one poster asked wht the impact would be, and there's been no real replies to that issue.
So, I think this thread merits its own space.
But, that's just my two cents. I leave the wisdom to Mike.

A shame that Temple continues to put up with that jackass. Even Indiana eventually tired of Bob Knight (who had a far more successful career than John "I'll KILL you!" Chaney.)

THIS is an example of the general topic of the "Temple" thread. And, generally, this is not a discussion I wanted to participate in. There's already too much coach bashing and coach-bashing bashing on this board.long time/first time wrote:A shame that Temple continues to put up with that jackass. What EBox asked about here was whether or not Chaney's self-suspenscion (sp?) helped us or hurt us.
Mike would have wanted you to put it in the original Temple thread, but whatever, we're here now.Go UMass wrote:Thanks for the heads up; I had stopped following that thread.Rocks22 wrote:If Mike were here he'd probably point out that this is already being discussed in the all-encompassing Temple thread:

TU's web site has posted Chaney's statement...

I could have sworn when I first looked at it, I saw "I'll kill you!" It has since been revised, I guess.

add this twist: Hawks senior forward John Bryant (the one fouled hard on a layup and was on the floor for a bit) could miss the rest of the season after an MRI on Thursday showed he had a broken right arm...

If John Chaney doesn't resign after ending a kid's career, then he's been a complete fraud his entire life. Not to mention the shame he's saddled one of his own players with for the rest of his life.
This is unforgivable.

You know, say what you will about America, 13 bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice.
