I'd rather be playing a good BU team and being happy with a win as opposed to playing a crappy BU team and thinking we should have won.

It'll be interesting to see how the crowd leans in that game. I have a feeling quite a few people will be cheering for BU, especially since the student turnout will be nill. Remember, this is a homecoming game for BU freshman Ben Coblyn who lead Amherst Regional to the state championship two years ago. Not sure how much we'll see of Ben though as he's only seen 10 mins in their first 7 games.

I thought Springfield native Pat Martin was also playing for BU, but I don't see him on the roster on their site. Anyone know where he is?

No argument there. We just have to win.

I'm sure BU is a fine team, but Michigan was missing 3 starters last night. However, Dion Harris, UMich's leading scorer only had 4 points on 1-11 shooting and this is the 2nd straight year BU has beaten Michigan in Crisler.

Now to this:

RPI: #69 SOS: #36

Last Night's Result (1-0):
Boston University (6-2) 63 @ Michigan (6-4) 52

Tonight's Games:
None. Geez.

So what happens, if anything, when Davidson plays the Sewanee? Aren't they Division III?

RPI only takes into account games against DI schools. There will be no record of that game in their RPI record.

Dec. 18

The NCAA announced yesterday that the basic RPI formula has been changed. This is different than the announcement a couple of months ago that the secret adjustments had been changed.

They announced that the new formula will still use the 25-50-25 ratio as it has since 1994, but that all road wins are treated as 1.4 wins, all road losses are treated as .6 losses, all home wins are worth .6 wins and all home losses are valued at 1.4 losses. Neutral site games are still worth 1.

As such, the rankings have changed dramatically and not to our benefit.

RPI: #110 SOS: #40

Today's Games:
Stetson (2-3) @ Miami (5-2)
Georgia Tech (#3 7-0) vs. Gonzaga (7-1) in Las Vegas

As much as I think it's pretty weak to try to play to the inadequacies of the RPI by scheduling a certain way, it's pretty shitty to shift gears on such a crucial barometer during the season. The added emphasis given to road wins and deemphasis of home wins is working against UMass and will probably continue to work against them because of the way the schedule happens to be constructed.

Ouch that change does not help us AT ALL if we are ever hoping of being in contention for an at-large bid. I agree that this change midstream does stink. However compared to the BCS formula college basketball is light years ahead.

At large bid? huh? - we are playing for the A10 automatic bid.

Time to get this season into 2d gear and go out and play 40 minutes of great UMass Basketball and build some momentum heading into the heart of the schedule.
Insert cornball rah rah slogan rhyming w/"Ford" here.

Vox, If UMass is in contention for an at-large bid, as it is, why is it a problem for you if people evaluate things with that in mind? I mean, how seriously are you taking your role as chief-board adversary if you're embarking on a campaign to extinguish talk of an at-large bid 8 days removed from a win over a top 10 team? You are the oddest of the odd ducks.

Iffing you think that the only route to the NCAA tournament UMass has is through winning the automatic bid, then this thread should be of very little interest to you because its very conception had an at-large bid in mind.
