While some ignominy surrounds his name, I'd still want Mike Williams taking that shot. Of course, ESPN can't put him on the list, and I've never heard the whole story regarding his sudden departure from UMass. But boy, could that guy hit clutch shots!

I don't recall Lou Roe making decisive last second shot. Mike Williams, yes. Tony Barbee, yes. Jerome Malloy, yes. Shannon Crooks, yes.

Am I forgetting a game that Lou won with a shot late? I know he won many with shots throughout...

Other than Laettner, who on the list has made a "decisive last second shot"?

I believe the point of the list was to document clutch players, even though the ESPN title asks "Who would you want taking the last shot"?. In fact, I'm surprised David Thompson didn't make the cut.

I agree fbiman. This is a list of players who had great success, great games scoring in the NCAA tournament not necessary great last second shooters.

Those stories aren't public board material. They weren't publicized at the time, they're not to be now. 87: if you wanna share it, do it privately please.

I don't think you're forgetting anything, I don't remember any either.

Methinks fbiman is thinking of Harper Williams with a 3 against Syracuse in '92!

Did he have many tournament performances that were on par with any of these guys? Camby had much better tourney outings as a rule, I believe.

My tongue was firmly implanted in my cheek when I chose the subject line for the original post. If you didn't realize it, I am stating it for the record now.

Gotcha. I missed it, I do have to admit. And usually I'm very good at picking up a cheek tounging.

ok, now who's going to do the best job with THAT straight line?

I know Mike, and know just enough about the story to realize that it should be told via PM, or more likely, only over beers. I asked without any real expectation that 87 would feel comfortable even in private email.

I'm with chuff on this one. Mike Williams had more last second big shots than anyone I can remember playing for the minutemen. God do I miss those days. Nothing better than March Madness when you got your team in the mix. Damn
