Game 21, 2024-25: at Rhody (1/29)
Game 21, 2024-25: at Rhody (1/29)
We're off this weekend, and have one more little bye in late February. Next up will be the annual trip to the Ryan Center for Rhody. No traditional TV, but ESPN+ will have it.
It'll likely be a Quad 2 game for us

Ryan has not been a house of horrors for us. We've won 3 of our last 4 there, but tripped up last year when Rhody hit 14 threes.

Rhody started off hot, at 9-0, but has gone .500 since, and sit at 14-5 now, and 3-4 in the league.
They took a 24-point home loss to VCU on Tuesday. Turning it over 27 times usually leads to an L. That was Rhody's worst turnover mark since at least 2010. (That's how far back Sports Reference's game logs currently go.) Rhody doesn't keep turnovers in their record book. And I think ProJo was trying to find the same stat, as they referenced 2010-11 also when looking for it.

Rhody visits La Salle this weekend, Saturday at 2 on ESPN+.
Our common opponents so far:
Temple, both neutral site. Rhody won by 6, we lost by 7.
CCSU. Rhody won by 8, we lost by 4, both home games.
Richmond. Rhody won in Richmond by 3, we lost in Amherst by 8. After that one, we've since won 4 of our last 5.
Mason. Rhody won at home by 3, we lost at Mason by 7.
GW. Rhody fell at home by 8, we won last night by 13.

Apparently those 27 turnovers were their most since 2005.

Can’t believe it’s been 16 years!

URI lost at La Salle yesterday, 70-64. 2 of their best players, Thomas and Green fouled out. Their center, Brown, had 4 fouls and only played 15 minutes.
All stats are A10 only:
Thomas, a 6-1 guard averages 20 per game. He takes around 6 3s a game but he is only at 29%.
House, a 6-4 guard averages 12.1.
Green, a 6-7, 230 forward, averages 9.4 and 4 boards. He is 8/20 from 3 in five games.
Brown (7-0, 255) and Fuchs (6-9, 245) split time at center. They combine for 13.5 points and 15 boards.
Lawrence, a 6-3 guard, averages 6.5. He takes around 5 3s per game at 29%.
Other than Fuchs, only 3 others get much PT off the bench. Diboundje (6-5), Traore (6-8) and Estevez (6-3) combine for 46 minutes, 12 points and 8 boards.
I like our matchups, everywhere but at the 5. Malek has to come to play, which he has done the last few games. Who will Frank put on Thomas is the other big question. Oh, yeah - we couldn't cover House last year. He put up 51 in the 2 games against us. Each team won at home.

What a play by C Lowe and Matt Glass an absolute beastly pick. Good old days.

Thoght that first Curry three was a good sign, but his head doesn't look in the game yet. It's unfortunate b/c these Rhody guards are really unlikeable.
Need better perimeter D.

The ball security by UMass in this game has been criminal.
Re: Game 21, 2024-25: at Rhody (1/29)
We’re back to the UMass team I had become accustomed to from earlier in the season. Sloppy, bad shots, idiotic decisions.

After having an 8pt lead , we are now down 8 at the half 38-46

Also Sebastian Thomas has one of the most egregious carries I’ve ever seen and of course there was no whistle.

We have no business being back in this game, but I’ll take it.
