You have got to be kidding me !!!

Looked like a solid amount of students, but they were sitting all over the place.
What is your guess as to student turnout number?
1,100+ students and best overall crowd of the year.

That is correct. Some students, as usual, picked up a hat and left, but I would say maybe 1,000 were scattered at the north end of the stands, kind of where they sit for hockey, sections K and LL. Not too many behind the basket.

Even "politely clap" is a stretch for some....
Happy to say, not all of us old fogie season ticket holders. There are some games where I'm hoarse from all the yelling, such as "box out" !!!.
You should sit on DK or Frank's bench - you could be the coach barking all those detailed "instructions".

No idea, I just know that looking around there seemed to be a lot of students sitting all over the place. Trust me, I'm the biggest critic of student turnout, have been since I was there... but there was a decent showing last night, albeit spread out.

For whatever reason, students sit all over the building. Unlike hockey, no effort is made to guide students to ‘their’ sections.

Yes luv the student turnout for hockey!
Counted 20 in “their” section last night.
Others have said there were 1,100 scattered throughout the M. Seems real high & have no idea how they would even come up with an accurate student count.

^ I believe the count is from scanned student IDs.

Over 1,100 students scanned into the game—a number that’s been shared here and by the department. That’s a big win in itself, getting that many students in the building. But to keep them coming back, the team needs to follow it up with a win on the court.

I'll ask again, were you there? If you were, it was impossible not to notice the high student turnout. The 1,100 number came from Mike Minyard, the man recently hired to improve the gameday experience. I don't know why it's so important that students sit in their designated sections. If there are seats available that are closer to the action or have a better view, they go to those areas.

Suggestion: have a conversation directly with the Athletic Department to get this info. Clearly you don't want to believe anything anyone here tells you.

as has been mentioned several times - it was the largest student turnout of the season and people are correct - they do not sit in the designated student section and while I do think 1100 students sitting behind the basket and fairly close to the opposing bench might be a little intimidating for the away team and possibly give UMass a slight edge - I don't blame the students for not wanting to sit there - it's a terrible seat and when they see 6000 empty seats they just sit there. Only way to solve that is to start winning and give them no choice but to sit behind the hoop.

The student section isn't just behind the basket. The corners to the left and right are also student sections. The view from behind the basked isn't great so many choose to sit in seats with a better view and away from the band. You can't judge the numbers of students based on how many were sitting behind the basket. On Tuesday there were a lot of students at the game. At halftime the line for them picking up their free hat at the student entrance stretched halfway around the concourse both ways. It was a site to see how far back the line went to just get a free hat. Unfortunately, many students got their hat and immediately left before the 2nd half.

The also had a promo for students were they gave away 25 "skip the line" passes for the Spoke Bar in Amherst for tonight (2/6). Upon arriving students were given a QR code to scan and the winners announced in the 2nd half. Good idea for a promo but the Spoke is 21+ and most freshman, sophomores and juniors are not 21 so the target audience was limited.

The student section should be behind the opponent's bench, with overflow behind the basket. 500 students behind the bench could possibly make life miserable for them.

It should be behind both hoops, but that would require students to show up en masse. I'm good with it being behind the opposing bench as well.
