UMass transfer portal news - 2024

Post by 69MG » Fri Mar 15, 2024 4:28 pm

I'm starting this thread to monitor the comings and goings for UMass in the transfer portal. I use VerbalCommits.com as my resource. I'll try to do a daily update but if anyone sees something official, put it on here.

It never begins and it never really ends.

I hate when I check the board and see more posts in this thread. Feels like there's gonna be a run of transfers

I agree but I also trust Frank - watching St. Johns with RJ and Providence with Carter - the man can recruit - just because we are in the MAC now doesn't mean he's going to recruit any differently. As it is now (in the A-10) you can't keep a stud like RJ or Currry for more than a year or two - so it'll be the same in the MAC - he'll get the same guys - win- then they transfer. Hopefully we get to the NCAAT in the MAC!

I just hope they all noticed how the crowds at the Mullins grew this season as they won more games. The Bona game we had over 7k and its just a different atmosphere and the energy is different. Continue that progress and the place could be very home court friendly and loud. Just hope they want to be a part of it.

Floyd, to add to that, I hope they have a mindset of unfinished business. They couldn't beat Bona when 7k showed up and they got knocked out in the first round of the tournament. That's not a dig at the team, I'm just hoping that have a feeling individually and collectively that the job they signed up for isn't done. This season was a nice first step, but next year is when we can do some real damage.

There are plenty examples of "grass isn't greener". RJ Luis is probably going dancing w/ St Johns, but it hasn't been an easy year for him and I don't think we have anyone on this roster that is at his level, to be honest. The other guys that transferred out had poor seasons, Noah at Rutgers, Gapare at Georgia Tech, Wildens at Texas A&M (although they're predicted to squeak in to the dance). Is Gianni even playing basketball anymore? Boston College to UMass to...?

Gianni is not playing - at least not this year he didn't - he was at most home games watching - I assume he's still a student

Watched the Jimmy V special on 30 for 30 early this am about the '83 NC State upset over Houston with the players reunion. Incredible how close they all still are, getting together to talk about Jimmy V, the season, and the championship. That's what will be missing down the road as it is becoming rare for classes to progress thru their college careers together. The continuity is a thing of the past

FAU's entire team minus the one 5th year senior all came back this year.
