^
Probably due to some bureaucracy in Whitmore.
Unless we hear it directly from a player or their camp, UMass is always slow to put out this type of news officially... nothing new here. Eye emojis and atomic bomb gifs are almost as annoying as the transfer portal itself. Almost.

It's not a UMass thing, it's an NCAA thing. Frank addressed this in the podcast.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:11 pm ^

In the podcast, Frank did make reference to paperwork having to be completed (whatever that means). But it does infer that he has players committed but can't announce anything yet. He also said he had a visitor this week and another one is coming with his family this weekend.

Appreciate that.

Bryce Lindsay a point guard who committed to FM at South Carolina then enrolled at Texas A&M after he was let go, entered the portal today.
Played in 8 games and apparently red shirted this years so would have 4 years to play.

^ It was an injury redshirt so he will have 4 years to play. He was a highly sought after recruit with several high major offers. We also offered him. He went to IMG Academy, so he did play some tough competition prior to Texas A&M.
When it comes to a center, I want an experienced transfer. I could live with this as he would most likely back up Curry and he could also fill in as a backup at the 2.
Here's some info on him from when he committed to Texas A&M. He's probably not quite as good as advertised, but he sounds like Frank's kind of player.

According to 247Sports, Lindsay is ranked in the Top 30 for combo guards in the class, and the 22nd-ranked player in Florida.
As one of the most skilled two-way guards in the 2023 class, Lindsay is a pure scorer with outstanding range, possessing a fierce determination to improve, and an unbridled work ethic that fits Buzz Williams’s system to a tee. Linsday received offers from the likes of West Virginia, South Carolina, Georgetown, Villanova, and Depaul, while his commitment to the Aggies signals that the Buzz Williams era is continuing to produce recruiting results.

Why? What does it matter? We’re moving to the MAC after next season. Does SLU play FBS?Juice Stand wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:19 am maybe Schertz doesn't get it going right away in year one, but that hire has me scared.

I'm just saying that I think he's an outstanding coach, and Avila is obviously a tremendous player. My statement that he might not "get it going right away" only meant that the W/L record might not look great, but the team will probably be tough to gameplan for and beat, as opposed to what SLU looked like last year. I don't know how they were as bad as they were. Once we head to the MAC, I won't be worried about SLU any more.JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:09 pmWhy? What does it matter? ^ I understand what you’re saying. I am just cynically using the opportunity to express my continued bitterness at the dumb move to the MAC.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Another note on the recent Being Frank podcast for folks that like reading in between the lines. At the 25:30 mark, he makes reference to kids that talk about "making a pro", and says "there's no such thing as making pros". I wonder if that was a little bit of a reference to Robert Davis and his mom's book, Raising a Pro, or Making a Pro, or whatever it was called.

ODU, notorious for making pros. No disrespect to Kent Bazemore.

C.J. Luster, the JUCO shooter from Salt Lake CC, was offered by UMass, but I see on Verbal Commits that he committed to Stony Brook.
Not sure how much interest we had.
