A10 Tourney 2024

Post by WillHerndonFan » Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:20 pm

A place to discuss standing/seeding changes as they happen and scenarios going forward:

Here is what will happen if all of the A10 games go our way this weekend:

If UMass Wins and the following happens, then UMass will improve to a #4/#5 in the standings/seeding (depending on win/loss against VCU later in the season) and potentially give us a second bye:

UMass beats George Mason
Dayton beats St. Bonaventure
LaSalle beats St. Joe’s
Duquesne beat URI
Richmond beats VCU

Also wins/losses by these teams further make it likely we can hold/improve our standing and seed as the season progresses:

Saint Louis beats Fordham
Davidson beats Loyola Chicago

Please feel free to correct me as this a quick analysis of what I am looking at in the standings and the upcoming weekend schedule.

Will, way too early to think about this. So many games to be played and almost all of them will have an impact on seeding. For now, we have to take care of business and do no worse than 6-4 over our last 10 games. When it gets down to maybe 2 games left then we can speculate on how the outcomes affect us.

I do appreciate the fact that you really pay attention and give us a lot of info in various threads.

This thread is good! When watching other A10 teams, I'm sometimes thinking about who I want to win for seeding purposes. Keep it coming, Will.

its a good thread but as I said in another thread - we win 5/6 in a row we don't have to worry about what anyone else does. Although looking at next 4 games I just hope we go 2-2. 7-3 the rest of the way is possible but 6-4 is probably more realistic.

There's a dude on Twitter who calculates seeding chances. His latest:

Would love to see the second bye. If Dayton has a bad day, any of us in the pack can be vying for the championship and dancing again. If not the NCAA, at least the NIT. Las Vegas would be a fun NIT Final 4.
Go UMass!!

^ Do the new changes to the NIT kick in this year or next? I know the NIT is the "other" tournament, but it's actually pretty fun when you factor in the potential for an extra home game. We've had some exciting NIT runs in the post-Cal era.

Way too early.

Umass has already lost two games they needed to win (Loyola and Joe's). Take care of your own business as you cannot control anything else. You will find yourself rooting against someone in 10 days that you were rooting against tomorrow.

This thread is almost meaningless until about 4 games left.

Of course UMass needs to be win.

It can also be fun to compare any current standings with preseason expectations and outlook possibilities for teams moving forward. Or we can all sit here and say, "it's all meaningless until the season's final outcome hangs in the balance." Might save Mike bandwidth, I guess, but some of us are here for a little more.

Of course it’s too early after 8 of 18 games but this new guy Will is all over it all. He’s the new beat writer of umasshoops. Let him roll with it. It’s going to be fun watching the standings change every game.

Maybe so, but it will only be fun if Umass stops losing to teams they should beat.

If they can win 3 in a row, I’ll start scoreboard watching. When’s the last time Umass won in Orleans?

Yes to both of you! ^ and ^^

Tehy lose 2 of the next three and who gives a shit what their position in the standings are - it will suck regardless of what others do.
