A10 Tourney 2024
Re: A10 Tourney 2024
I agree. I think A10 will still be good. Should add Charleston.
Would be nice if we can win our last A10 tournament next year.
I guess we find out tonight that we won't make the NIT. Won't find out about CBI until the 23rd. CIT doesn't take A10.
I don't know how frequent NIT refusals happen. Don't know the max they take from one conference. So many good teams in upper A10. I'd hope top 8 get post season play if they want it.
I'm really curious how the rule changes with the NIT and the conference chaos will affect the tournaments.
Looks like CBI has drawn a good number of power conference teams in past couple years. It offers a return to the winner that is less than the fee to play. I'd love to see CBI. Not holding breath on NIT.

This game came a couple of years after Alex Eldridge shut Nixon down in Springfield (1/11/75).Sheck wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 2:20 pmSomeone on their board had a great story about when they won it in '77. Worth a read. Involves Jack Leaman.TruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 2:17 pmAbracadabra…..Duquesne is the A10 Champs!!
Last time they won the league , it was the Eastern 8 ! Go Norm Nixon….

Guess it's not going to let me link directly to the post so here it is.
When the Dukes went to their last NCAA tourney by winning the Eastern Eight in 1976-77, I was there along with my two brothers as a 12 year old. There was no other Duquesne fans in the building (the Spectrum in Philadelpha) that first game when we beat Penn State 66-54 in the opening round. If they were they didn't clap. We rooted hard like we always did. Jack Lehman the coach of UMass actually sat next to us and introduced himself after the Penn State game. He commented how neat it was for us to be there rooting for Duquesne on a Wednesday afternoon and was interested in why we thought Duquesne had a chance to win the tourney. My two brothers and I said "Norm Nixon" all in sync. He was a real nice guy. The Dukes beat Lehman's UMass team the next night 89-82. Umass was a pretty heavy favorite and Lehman looked bewildered throughout. There were maybe a couple dozen more Duquesne fans that night along with Villanova fans rooting for the Dukes. The third night and the final against Villanova there were a couple busloads of Duquesne fans, the band, along with a couple hundred locals probably when the Dukes pulled the upset against Nova. Even the Villanove fans didn't show up thinking they would win that game easily. The overall attendance in the final game was under 4,000. I think that's when they moved it to the Civic Arena the next year. I was there for a few of the Piscataway NJ A-10 tourneys, but Everhart's run in 2009 in Atlantic City was electric. I was there for all of those games.
They misspelled Coach Leaman's name in the post.

Dayton with a #7 seed. Love 11th seeded NCAA tournament Duquesne turning their season around and winning the A10 tournament and thus dancing.

Really happy for Duquesne who has been the doormat in the A10 since the beginning. Did Norm Nixon precede the A10?devildawg3010 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 5:36 pm Dayton with a #7 seed. Should have better read the preceding posts but I am in Nashville on St Paddy’s day so may not be on my game today. Remember Norm Nixon on the Lakers and in the NBA but the Winning Time series in showtime provided the dynamics behind his leaving LA Lakers.

Keith Dambrot announces that he is retiring at the end of the season.
Special run for Duquesne! Hope they keep it going in the NCAA tournament.

A lot of NIT refusals this year, that tournament gets less relevant each year. I also don't see any reason to play in the CBI, it's pointlessDoctorJ wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:20 pm I agree. I think A10 will still be good. Should add Charleston.

Looks like fans and players were not a fan of turning down a NIT invite without discussing with others first.
As a result, the Bonnies AD has resigned.

Scoop, their former AD was Tim Kenney, who was a fan favorite here at UMass as associate AD and color man on the radio.
