Providence backing out to replace Creighton in Atlantis. They will play future games at Mohegan possibly against UMass and BC to repay their backing out

Disappointing but it happens. Good thing is they are expressing openness to playing.

I'm just hoping to keep things on an even keel because I think we all benefit with regional rivalries playing each other.

So now we have PC and a chance at Temple?

How about BC make it up by playing in Springfield? Next year Mohegan or Boston?

If you want to be able to recruit New England kids to NE schools, you gotta take some risk and play each other. No?

Too much protectionism. UMass vs BC, NU vs BU doubleheader in Gahdin should be a thing...EVERY YEAR... :(

^ Not sure I understand your post. It was PC that backed out, not BC.

Ok, I'm getting old.

Oh wow. Well, even better. But who do we get for game one? If it were a year later, URI would be a natural fill.

Lot of time for a replacement. Either way we could get a rivalry game.

I still say add them to Springfield game, give them a home for it.

Get UVM. They deserve a shot to play in this. Would be a good test for us as well.

Providence is a top 50 NET team, maybe even top 25 at end of year, need to replace with significantly better than Vermont.

Is the tournament trying to keep it regional? It seems like that was the idea. Who could be a quality replacement from the northeast? Somebody like Syracuse, St Johns (although I don't want to play Pitino and RJ Luis), Seton Hall, or Rutgers? I don't know what their schedule commitments look like, just throwing names out there.

Providence was 58 NET last year. Syracuse 84, St Johns 32, Seton Hall 67, and Rutgers was 103. For reference, Vermont was 102 NET this past year, and on a neutral court 1-50 is Quad 1, 51-100 is Quad 2 and 101-200 is Quad 3. So Syracuse and Seton Hall would be Quad 2, and Vermont and Rutgers would just barely be Quad 3 games (based on last years NET rankings).

I like the regional aspect of these things. Brings out local people and the rivalries can be fun

Def keep it regional if you can. Anything east of the Hudson is essentially New England so that gives you more than enough teams to choose from and provide their fans a drivable game.

Word on the street is that BC pulled out of this Tournament like the pieces of shit they are.

Awesome (sarcasm), no Providence and now no BC. So it's just Temple and UMass at this point? I'll be excited for a potential matchup with Temple, but what a bleep show. I wonder who they're looking at for potential replacements.

This sucks. I haven't seen anything yet about a replacement for Providence, so this tournament could be a 1 game affair, us vs. Temple.

Just saw this from Garrett Cote in The Gazette:
UMass and Temple are still firmly in place to play in the showcase, and another Power 6 school is expected to take Boston College’s spot. The tournament will be a three-team, round-robin format across three days (Nov. 22-24), with each team having one of the days off.

I hope the ACC splits up. Then we’ll see where BC ends up. They add nothing to the conference with regards to football or basketball

Is Arkansas a possibility?

Arkansas-Temple-UMass…harkens back to another era, but everything would be different!
