Games 5 & 6, 2024-25: Temple & Florida State (11/23,24)

Post by MikeUMA » Wed Jan 31, 2024 6:25 pm

Rothstein reported that we'll be in a two-day event at Mohegan next season
Providence on day one
BC or Temple on day two
https://collegehoopstoday.net/rothstein ... 25-season/

Sounds like this might be the Hoop Hall's Tip-Off event, in which we played in both 2014 and 2019.

This is great!!! I love it.

Perhaps the prospect of games against PC, BC and/or Temple will be attractive to the players and potential transfers.

It is a win for the fans. The region needs matchups like this and they are too few and too far between.

Thanks for sharing. OOC next year already has some games to look forward to.

Many great games vs. PC over the years. None better than the first I saw, the debut of Julius Erving in very loud, packed Cage. In that era, PC consistently seemed to be the best team in New England by a lot, and that was a wonderful win. PC always a challenge, although oddly Coach McCall's team beat them a couple times in the most recent meetings.

It is awesome to see that UMass will be back at Mohegan Sun Arena after a long hiatus. I have always enjoyed this game as the arena is compact, the place has good food and entertainment, and the chance to hit a jackpot before and/or after the game. I do wish we were playing Temple instead as I miss playing a rivalry that spanned 30 years (20 competitive), I remember the last great game at the A10 Tournament in Brooklyn in 2013 where UMass beat Temple beat in the A-10 Quarterfinals for the last time as an A-10 member.

Obviously this is great, but it highlights how unfortunate it is that we don't play these teams regularly anymore.

The last UMass/Providence game wasn’t too bad either. UMass stormed back from a 20 point halftime deficit to beat the Friars at the Dunk. Pipkins with the game winner with 10 seconds left. After the game, I remember going to a nearby tavern packed with UMass fans, and the bartender said to me: “boy, you UMass guys can drink!” He got that right.

I've captured everything that I've seen:

Aside from these, it's the return game for West Virginia.

If y'all have seen something I'm missing, shoot me a PM.

I'm hoping it's tournament style with a first place and third place match. Not like what we just saw in Springfield this season.

Yeah, Rothstein mentioned that. Day 1s winners play on Day 2, same for the losers. A 2-day tournament.

December's Springfield games were a single day double-header, by design.

well, at least I can say that I was allowed, with permission of Mohegan Security, to bring my Signs into the 1st college game played there, by our UMass

^ If not, we could play in a half-court league.
