KAEO Josh Cohen
Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
Nice article and I only wish the penultimate sentence were true:

It's behind a paywall. Can you summarize and explain your last comment?
Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
The story is about Cross and Cohen, how and why they came to UMass and their enjoyment in playing together. The sentence that I referred to says that UM is “fully capable” of getting an NCAA tournament berth.
Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
^ Thanks. Wow, that last one is a stretch, and it came from The Globe.
Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
I haven't followed other threads super closely, so I'm sure this has been mentioned elsewhere. That said, really hoping that Josh can start to find his form again. Would be freakin' outstanding if he could at Dayton on Sunday, but that's a tall order at a lowd UD Arena against a Flyer team that's receiving votes.
If not then, he's gotta have a strong showing against a meh La Salle team, at Mullins, on Wednesday.
His strong showing in Hawaii got his PPG up to 19.2, but has dipped to 16.8 after going combined 2-7 from the floor in the last two.

Just re-reading my previous post ^
Yeah, Josh has come back. 24 vs La Salle, 23 at Rhody, 28 tonight.
While the offensive output is nice, especially since he's the primary frontcourt focus for the defense now that Cross is out, I'm getting a little concerned about the workload Josh has been bearing lately. Last 4 games: 33.8 mpg. Tonight: a season-high 36.
On the other hand, he did average the same 33.8 last season at SFC, so this really isn't new.
Just hoping that DHS can continue to make progress, and of course for Cross to get healthy soon.

Eh I'm not concerned about workload. I think we've conditioned ourselves to be conscience of load management with the NBA and how we've been snake bitten by some injuries lately. He's a 22 year old who plays 2 games a week. We need our best players to play significant minutes (especially with the lack of front court depth) if we want to be any good.

Agreed... workload management is such crap and is ruining sports, especially paid professional sports... look at the NBA trying to crack down on it. Hell, it has already ruined pitching in baseball.

Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
Ask Nolan Ryan about workload management as the guy pitched for 27 years (5000+) inning, 7 no-hitter, a few strikeouts and threw harder than anyone in his time. You don’t think the guy worked through an injury or two in his day. Today, player health is completely managed by everyone except the player. Old time sports and players played through injuries (emerging injuries) and didn’t let the first sign of pain stop them from playing. If 4x Boston/NYC Marathoner Winner Bill Rodger’s believed in workload management he would have been only known as William Rodgers working at a Boston hospital as an orderly. Ultramarathoners everyday debunk the theory of workload management. There is a good running book out called “Pain & Performance” by Ryan Whited and Matt Fitzgerald about “Training as Treatment” which makes a point (and I paraphrase here) that training (playing) and not rest/treatment is the key to healing/recovery. Some injuries like a broken leg, ACL/MCL tear, etc. obviously fall outside this logic.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 9:55 am Agreed... workload management is such crap and is ruining sports, especially paid professional sports... look at the NBA trying to crack down on it. All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.
Re: KAEO Josh Cohen
I think it’s safe to say, yes. Either that or Arkansas has a ridiculous strength and nutrition program.
Cohen was a good scorer, not as terrible on defense as I thought he would be (still not good but not terrible), but he was not a good defensive rebounder at all and I think that is what he is really going to have to get better at to be successful in the SEC. I do think he’s going to get tested more athletically obviously so he needs to look more like that commitment photo than he did in his UMass uniform.
Would have liked to have him back and he seemed like a nice enough kid, but he made a business decision and it certainly doesn’t seem like wearing a UMass uniform meant all that much to him. I don’t particularly care how well he does or doesn’t do moving forward.
Yes this is the new era blah blah blah, I get it.
