Marty Meehan and the Big East

Post by stevemaz » Thu Feb 23, 2023 7:37 am

With our University president in attendance last night it got me thinking. Is it possible this guy has some connections with his liberal crew to pull some strings and get us into the Big East? It is obvious that we need to get the hell out of the A10, whose lack of football has made it a third tier league (second tier is AAC, Mountain West, and because of Gonzaga the West Coast). I think the league will even slip below the Sun Belt, CUSA, and Mac in the near future as well. I know for a fact that the Big East is expanding and will announce a new school or schools by June. The question is whether it will be just one or will they add three? If it is one, then we have no shot as that spot will go to Dayton, Saint Louis, or Loyola. If it is three then the door is open since ii would likely be two in the west and one in the east. The hard feelings of days gone by are now dead and buried so politically speaking I dont think any of the current members hold a grudge vs UMass except UConn, but they alone could not block us. On the contrary, I think the Eastern side of the Big East would welcome another high level academic institution that will support athletics on a high level and allows for another bus trip for all other sports, while the Western side would welcome us with open arms.

Football isnt a factor as they already have UConn and with 14 could handle a UConn/UMass defection if that were to pass down the road. I am high on DB and believe Football is going to make noise to the pt where CUSA or MAC would take us and even UConn as football only schools.

Big East could adopt a 7 team west and 7 team East scheduling strategy where East teams play each other twice and get one rotating home/away with a team from the West.

If we stay in the A10 things are not going to get better.. GET IT DONE MARTY!!

do i have to remind you again that im a gummy guy..but i guess maybe there are times i forget to chew..LOL

That said, if the rumor's are true and the Big East is expanding, then UMass has to put the full court press on. This is our path to relevance in hoops.

You’re a beautiful unicorn, Steve Maz. Don’t let anyone ever tell you differently.
Retarded artistically. Idiotic in other respects.

Our problem this year is we have a new coach and we have to give him at least another year to see if he can improve the program. We need to stay in the A 10.

well access to better players is one reason why I wouldnt worry about how we would compete

Not if you cannot coach'em up; and that seems to be a lingering problem here in Amherst.
