TJ had 6 points fairly early and appears to have finished with same number of shots and points. Another injury?

Did anyone see the altercation between Frank and Brandon after Brandon picked up the offensive foul at the 11:46 mark in lthe second half? The assistant coaches were holding Brandon back and trying to settle him down. Frank screamed at him as they were coming off of the court because of the offensive foul, and Brandon said something back to him and it escalated. Brandon never went back into the game. Tempers definitely boiled over.

The offensive foul was the third thing within about 30 seconds that Brandon struggled with. He got burned on D and out worked for a rebound then came down and rand the guy down. He was coming out before that foul.

I think his lack of Defense got him yanked and let RJ and Gapare play a lot more. But, I am not sure. I asked the same question on Twitter, when I realized he hadn’t come back in.

No they just saw him hit 2 early 3’s, adjusted defensively and played him tighter. There was not much movement on the offensive front so you had to make your own plays and he’s not the best without the ball or driving to the basket.

Just checked the box score. TJ played 25 minutes. That is about his average. Very interesting numbers for the game. Rebounds were even. FG attempts were even. Literally the difference was made shots. UMass missed nine more shots than Dayton and lost by 18. They either needed to make Dayton shoot a lower percentage or they needed to shoot better. Those four or five back door plays and the four or five missed shots in the paint were the difference.

That is exactly correct. In the second half, we were only able to set 1 screen for TJ to get an open 3 and he missed it. Other than that, they didn't give him any space and he had no chance. Dayton understands how to play defense.

I'm going on my rant again. We have grossly overvalued the quality of this roster. RJ is in the top 10% of the players in the A10. I think Keon has a chance to be in the top half. Matt and Noah are in the top 25%. Can any of you honestly say that anyone else on the team is in the top 50% of the players in the A10?

We have some athletes, but they are not above average BB players. Missed assignments on D, poor shooting and poor decision making. If I only saw this against Dayton, a very good team, I might excuse it. But I have seen it over and over again. I pray next year's recruits plus a couple of additions from the portal will shore up our weak spots.

Sadly I will be unable to add to my UMass T-shirt collection if the weather forecast remains bad. :(
I’m going to go ahead and declare the descriptor Ronnie Ball the big winner of the day. Gurlie Ball also would have placed well. That is all.

The reason for those missed shots by UMass and made shots by Dayton was the quality of the defense. Our guys were forced into ugly attempts around taller players while their attempts were dunks. Are dunks a stat that gets tracked? It looked to me like they easily had 8 or 9 of them, most in the second half.

I went in to the game expecting a 20 point loss and they lost by 18, so they pretty much met my expectation. If Noah and Cross were available and cooking we might have had a chance, but this game was over before it started. I don't think anybody got injured, so that's the positive takeaway. Also, a pretty decent crowd for a Wednesday with bad weather. I hope we got a good one for senior day next weekend.

Disappointing game to me. Maybe Gapare seeing a guy like Holmes play will inspire him. He totally blows as a wing player, but add some muscle and energy and he could be a dominant low post guy. I am coming around on Keon and believe he will be a top tier A10 pt guard once he develops a 3 (at this pt i suspect he will be our starting pt guard next year). FM needs to find guys that play well vs good teams as we have so many that do not. Right now the only guys i care about returning next year are Cross, Luis, Keon, Dominquez, and Gapare (I would love for Noah and TJ to return, but i get the feeling neither will be here).
