This seemed to be brewing for a while, Archie was coaching him pretty intensely, and it boiled over at George Mason this weekend. He pulled Freeman with 7:21 to go in the game and didn't insert him back in the lineup until there were only 35 seconds left. Freeman felt that was disrespectful apparently and according to a George Mason fan in attendance was giving it to Archie and barely moved in those final seconds. That same George Mason fan tweeted that he wouldn't be surprised if Freeman would transfer and Freeman liked that tweet.

In happier news, we will be creating a ring of honor and the first three members will have their banners unveiled during this game. They are honoring Carlton "Silk" Owens, Tom Garrick, and Kenny Green from our 87-88 Sweet Sixteen squad

I really enjoyed that team, Penders had them believing they were the best team in the country. Green played a similar role for that team that Harper played for UMass 4 years later.

I guess we won't get our hopes up for him transferring here - if he thinks he was being coached intensely there he wouldn't last a practice here

^ Why would we want a guy that has already been at two schools in two seasons who seems to have had problems being coached at both schools?

I believe FM wants character guys that play for the name on the front of the jersey. I do too! Based on the last two seasons, it does not look like Freeman is that type of player.

Besides the 14.3 points per game, Freeman leads URI in assists and steals. That's their equivalent to us losing Noah.

^ URI is 4-8; 8-16 with Freeman playing in all 24 of their games.

UMass is 4-9; 13-12 with Noah playing 11 of UMass’ 25 games.

I get the sense that Noah came home to play for UMass…the name on the front of his jersey.

I get no such vibe from Freeman. His record tells me he thinks it’s about him. That’s not what i want in a player.

Freeman’s numbers would do nothing to replace Noah’s leadership. If Noah played all 25 of UMass’ games their record would be considerably better.

There’s more to winning than stats.

^ I was only talking about stats, not leadership. No doubt Noah means more to us from a leadership/intangibles perspective, but they only have 2 guys in double figures and he's one of them. Maybe others will step up and replace his production. We'll have to see. Of course, if he was a cancer in the locker room the whole team might play better without him. We'll find out on Saturday.

To play devil's advocate, you can say that sounds a lot like Matt Cross.

All in all, I have no opinion if we should pursue him or not.

Out on Saturday are Noah, Matt and Brandon. Last game, Matt went for 22 and 7. How do we replace those numbers?
