Just saw Billy Packer passed. Always liked his coverage of the NCAA tourney. I thought he was great

Knew Billy well and he was a very nice guy. He, Dick Enberg and Al McGuire covered a lot of Notre Dame basketball games in the early 80’s. They would arrive in South Bend 2 to 3 days before a nationally televised matchup with UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina or some other ranked team. He was always reserved and friendly. Also sometimes shared a plane ride to Chicago and just talked basketball. He asked me to give his younger brother a job as a counselor and I gladly obliged.
I use to kid Dick Enberg if they could have a cameraman follow us around with the light on so Digger would be nice. Digger always enjoyed having a camera around.
Al McGuire was always on - he would basically take stuff you told him and use it on air and never credit anyone for the info.
Billy was a person who worked hard at his trade and worked at it. May he RIP he was one of the good one’s.
