I was looking forward to going to Davidson but the men and women are not playing here so no UMass live BB games for me this year.

This game is billed as being Dr. J Day. I have not seen any details as to what that means, but I'm hoping it means an appearance by the Doctor himself! 8)

Too bad it couldn't have been the Dayton game on 2/22, Julius' birthday and the 52nd anniversary of the Syracuse game that turned out to be his final home game at UMass.

Game 23, 2022-23: Davidson (2/4)

Post by LS71 » Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:06 pm

Looking for a bounce back win tomorrow afternoon. Tip is at 12:30 pm and is being nationally televised on USA Network.

Any word on Noah or Matt?

A couple of interesting side notes:

1. Tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the first game played at the Mullins Center. I’ll be wearing the t-shirt I bought that day!

2. Dr. J Day-1st 500 fans get a replica jersey. Of course it won’t be the same color as the home jersey he wore when he was here…and there no names on the backs of jerseys then either. I have not heard or read that he is expected to attend. With that said, why didn’t they save this for the Dayton game? It is being played on his birthday and is also the anniversary of his demolition of Syracuse 2/22/1971!

**Edit-I forgot the thread for tomorrow’s game was already started.**

Yikes

And the refs did not even stop the game after he was holding his face in agony

That is completely against the concussion protocol and those referees should absolutely be reprimanded, enough is enough!

Yikes is right. Who governs the refs…the conference, the NCAA, another organization?

Frank added -IF Luis plays again this season he will wear a mask - out indefinitely

Wow - would be surprised if he didn’t play again this year - still haven’t even seen a replay of what happened

Bamford needs to act and support the players here. This is a serious issue.

A little more not so good news:
-Rahsool Diggins (ankle) is not practicing still, but should be ok to play again Saturday.
The way things are going, Gapare might be playing PG.

Given the injury situation, if we can gut out a win tomorrow it will be a major achievement. I know Frank plays a lot of guys to prepare for moments like these, but these injuries/illnesses are going to be tough to overcome. Hopefully Cross is feeling up to it and Diggins can continue his solid play. Expectations, however, are not high.

Does anyone know if Foster Loyer is playing for Davidson? I think he missed their last game.

This game might be his chance at a 30 min 20 pt breakout game. Someone needs to pick up the scoring of our top 3 scorers.

missing 3 top scorers. Key to stopping Davidson is containing Loyer. Throw healthy Noah, Rahsool and Keon at him and this would be a win. Without them and perhaps no Matt Cross, who is needed for their physical play, it looks very bad. Don't expect much of a crowd with still no students and severe weather. No RJ either? What else can go wrong?
