Kante
DD or Gapare
Cross
Weeks
Noah
Brandon put up 12 & 8 versus Bona, both season highs, so I doubt he gets yanked from the starting lineup for this one.

Also think that Gapare still needs to come off the bench. He has potential, but he's still learning, and fouling a lot. He's 3rd on the team in fouls per 40 minutes, behind Kelly and Leveque.

Noah
Luis
Cross
Gapare
Kante

Weeks
DD
Diggins

Off the bench is another really nice 2-3–4, can then play small ball keep Noah and Cross on the court.

Martin
Thompson

Then sub in for Noah and Cross.

Why not?

^^ Anyone think we'll see 12/8 from Brandon again? I sure hope we do. But the only way Gapare develops is if he gets a consistent 20-25 minutes a game. Whether that comes from starting or off the bench doesn't matter. DD, if healthy, deserves to start. That's my rationale.

As for SLU, we can't seem to control the other teams' guards and I wonder how we'll do that against Collins and Jimerson.

Having Diggins play this game will be crucial. His backcourt defense will be needed against their talented guards no doubt.

From the Collegian: https://dailycollegian.com/2023/01/tafa ... ss-roster/

Gapare is still 11th on the team in minutes. With Wildens out for a while we're seriously lacking in size, and while Gapare doesn't provide the same physicality that Wildens might, he has the height and shot blocking instincts to provide some protection and deterrent around the rim. I'm more than ready to see him play 20 minutes every night, and we'll certainly need it with Wildens gone.
Bart Torvik’s T-Rank metric, which gives recruits a 0-100 score based on numerous rankings, gave Gapare a 76.4, making him the fifth-highest recruit to commit to the Minutemen since 2010.
Does anyone know who the four recruits ranked above him were? I'll guess Tre Mitchell, Cady Lalanne, Dejon Jarreau and I don't know, Dante Clark? I know Vinson was highly rated, but he came here in 2009.

For what it's worth - UMass has won the last couple times St. Louis has come to Amherst - hopefully that trend continues tonight

I just took a look at the author's twitter account and he made a correction there but not in the article itself.
also, correction for this article:
Torvik actually has Gapare as UMass’ 3rd highest commit since 2010. He would be 5th since 2008.
1st and 2nd are DeJon Jarreau and Tre Mitchell.

It's hard to feel confident today after what happened in Olean. I think we'll play better than we did at SBU but SLU is a much better team than SBU. I'd also like to know the health status of TJ, DD and Matt. All 3 were off their game at SBU (only 6 minutes for DD). If they are all OK and Noah has had no setbacks we have a shot. If not, we are severely undermanned and we need SLU to have a horrid shooting night.

Prediction: We win by 3 or SLU wins by 15.

I honestly don't know what to think. Are our guys going to hit shots or not? Are they going to play with intensity or come out flat? Will Tafara get more minutes and look comfortable against top competition? What about Diggins, when will he step up? So many key guys were bad on Saturday that I'd like to think they bounce back, but it's starting to become a pattern of sluggishness since the Hofstra game. They've played 5 true home games to this point and are 3-2 with the wins coming against lowly CCSU, Albany, and Dartmouth. This is probably their best opponent at home so far, and my confidence is not high. I hope I'm eating my words later tonight.

We haven’t lost 2 in a row yet, so we have that trend going at least.
Game is on Nesn for the cable people out there.
